Super detail in this and the use of colour is spot on...
@big_brother: Thanks for the feedback! Whether or not the sprites are placeholders will be determined soon. It's up to the developer whether or not he will allow me to create my own sprites for it.
I love the panoply of textures! Great detail and atmosphere. There are a few sharp edges (below the middle of the bottom step, the base of the first tree on the left), but those are easily overshadowed by the quality and craftsmanship inherent in the rest of the piece.
I checked out a gameplay video for this project. Are the sprites placeholders?
I think it's the most beautiful pixel piece I've ever seen. Amazing.
hm, I didn't think that way. But I don't know, it's way too contrasting, it just looks unfinished compared to the rest of the piece (even the deepest layer of the background looks more detailed). Maybe detailing it a bit more, or at least adding some light rays to "justify" the drastic change of brightness, would make this look better. Just my opinion.
By the way, I have to agree about the sprites, this background is too good for them.
It's a shame the sprites are not your doing. They're one of the poorest I've seen lately while your BG is one of the best.
I love the foliage even more in this piece. Quite a beautiful thing to look at.
Wow, the player and enemy sprites really ruin the amazing ambiance that you've worked so hard to put into this piece. It feels almost /annoying/ to have such incredibly detailed pixelart but such low-res sprites in front of it.
WOW ! Great perspective , tesxtures , colors , AAasdhHsH THAT'S GREAT MAN , CONGRATS !
Nice work man, been waiting to see this one finished. Looks amazing.
I think the grass is necessary if it will be used as the "stage" to contrast solid ground from background.
Your sense of depth is just awesome! My only critic (I agree about the bamboo not looking like a bamboo) is about the grass, that pure color doesn't fit with the detailed environment.
It seems like there's a very sudden increase in the quality of your work, which is great, and makes me wonder what the reasoning behind this is? Hard work and understanding core art principles= quality out.
Thanks everyone!
@Philippe: A post a day keeps the doctor away. Or something like that.
@eclep: Yeah I definitely see what you're saying. Good eye!
@A2J2TIWARI: Bamboo trunks should be thinner than the way I'm representing them in this game. That's for sure. But after listening to the sound track of the bamboo forest it sounded really tribal and woody. To be honest I just needed wood that looked like you could knock on it. Ingame the feel is pretty nice =]
This is a sick piece. I can only say that it seems the doors have less polish to them than the rest of the background, which isn't saying much because it's mostly beautiful. Superb job.
Even more impressive than the last one. My only crit is that the pale trunk on the right is in front of a bamboo, and I think it should be behind it, based on its color.
Just OMG! Man...this is something super awesome! I wish I had more words to describe this. Btw, does the bamboo tree have much more girth than usual?
Cool spot
