that's the first thing that i thought when i saw this lol~
I watched it, and indeed it looks much like how it is seen on the movie, but the idea was on my head much before then.
This looks alot like the setting in Wreck-It Ralph, can you tell me if you got any reference from there?
Great concept, great lighting... love the pirahna plants lurking in the void.
Your first attempt!....3 hours!! .....and what brilliant imagination!!! ok, I've run out of exclamation marks but this is an amazing piece...hold on, found one!
Yeah, it is not AA (I'd use dark blue or dark green for it). It's reflex, which I though about making in light blue but also don't work because the "light" coming from the screen is actually neutral white, and the pipe needed a brighter color reflected..
On the pipe, you might want to remove the bright yellow pixels curving around the top of the right side. I'm not sure if you intended to AA there, but it doesn't work
edit- it may just be you were defining the edge with the bright yellow :F
Oh my.. this is my favorite 1-1 interpretation yet. The pipe looks great.
right, glad you get what i meant the first time.
Again, that's why i mentioned the need for shadows =p
Oh no no, I got what you mean. The clouds aren't actually on the void itself. They're suspended, like on a stage. They are aligned to the grass, z-wise, but suspended in thin air, The sky, we cannot see. I'll (try to) be retouching this picture before the voting starts so I can convey better the idea on it.
i don't mean that they should align with the grass. I mean they're INFRONT of everything. theyt should be BEHIND everything. i.e in the background.
This is so interesting! Awesoooome, man. Adds another sort of "life" to the classic Mario game.
I really like the way you did this, the pirahna plants in the void are a great personal touch.
This is a wonderful spin on it. Both of your pieces are very creative.
I usually vote for challenges based on concept, and pay little attention to proper pixel etiquette and fundamentals. I think your other piece http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/78321.htm is more in line with those 2 things. I think people have pointed out the flaws in this piece, so there isn't much more to say on that. --- BUT I like the idea of this piece much more than your other entry.
Needless to say, your other entry is amazing in its own way. I think I might be giving you 2 of my 3 votes. Great job here.
Doesn't need any. Harsh light, sharply cut shadows and highlights, nice clusters are what this calls for. Maybe a little texturing in the areas where light is grazing.
You know, I wanted to add a whole lot of things, but I though about leaving it at that for many reasons, one being that a "void" would cause a little more of "weird" feeling. This is absolutelly NOT a WIP, but I might add these things later on, as an added idea...
About the dithering, is tha good or bad? I actually tried adding much dithering for the player to look "too realistic" in comparison with the rest.
This is great, but also a missed opportunity for something funny or unexpected happening 'behind' the wall.
Too much dithering in the player ;)
Well, about the clouds, they were positioned kinda out of the Z Level to give the impression they're actually "out" of it, although I think I'll realign them, gimme a sec.
The blocks cannot cast shadows, because they're high and their shadows are being cast on the void thanks to the direction of the screen.
EDIT: Repositioned the clouds, but remember that they're NOT supposed to align with the grass!
amazing idea, but the clouds are on the wrong side of the level in the z-depth, and the floating blocks need shadows or something so you can see which block lies below them.
I really like the concept, as well as the 3D feel this piece gives.
