@wish04: Thank you for commiserating. But imagine two painters creating a single painting, both working and reworking each others paint strokes until it looks uniform, fusing their seperate distinct styles into one. After finally finishing the work they go to a gallery to have it displayed, but are handed instead a pair of scizzors, and told that each of them should "isolate" their paint strokes and that each artist may only post the paint strokes they did. Can you imagine a more demorilizing experience, to rip your work apart after so carefully stitching it together? Would you do it? I myself will not.
Maybe you guys can put up the elements that you've done for this project?
sucks that the whole piece was rejected, but I think you two should still show off some of the stuff you both individually did.
i usually don't like this kind of pixel art (realistic and detailed), but you remember me so many memories here ! thank's !
@ failureboy: Thank you for responding. The shadows are just darker tiles that have been pasted on the shadow layer and aligned with the lighter tilesets underneath, the sunlight on the floor is just a brighter tileset, and the reflections were painstakingly drawn in by Cyangmou. Everything was done on pixel level, all AA is hand placed, it took a hell of a long time to make. Are you not suposed to have things like this in pixel art? I don't understand?
I refer mainly to the floor - all the different lighting effects and shadows look like you used npa tools (>100% opacity overlays) for effect. I still voted this in, but I'm guessing some people won't because of that.
Thanks for the comments
@failureboy: what do you mean by npa, what in your opinion is not pixel art?
some parts of this look very npa (especially some lighting) but the pixelation is very good and precise. I especially like the floor tiles.
HOLY shit I'd buy this game in an instant if it were real. Dark Souls demake?! WANT.
Ornstein is done really well and same for the player. Smough on the other hand doesn't feel quite right. I think he's far too tall and skinny. Sort of lanky compared to his in-game form. I wish the HUD actually looked like this in Dark Souls, it's well done. This is pretty good.
Most parts of it are good, but altogether it looks too messy.
I don't understand the pose of the guy with hummer. Looks like broken perspective here. Some shadows are missing, the fire emits no light etc.
Oh wow, this is very very cool... I would love ot play a game that had destructable terrain with this much detail. This is great work. Only negatives would be that the UI is hard to distinguish from the gaming environment. (Not that it matters since this is a mock up, but if it were a real life game then that could become frustrating to deal with)
I hope Cyangmou gave you an A+
Stumbled on this art in 2021 and, honestly, this is one of the most beatiful arts i've seen.
