...But the question haunts me...

Why are japanese designers so obsessed with puting a tail on every character? Dragon ball Z has it, Final Fantasy has it, Talmit's Adventure, Breath of fire, you name it! Do they have some complex for being tailless?

that tail movement is too violent and tiring. To be believable the tail would need to traverse a much smaller area or move much slower.

The current action would still be useful as an occasional twitch.

This looks great! i love the tail. As far as making him more 'battle ready,' the only thing i can think of is that his rear leg moves a bit too much to be a good power setup for kicking or jumping or taking hits. As far as shifting the weight goes, sensation, thats a big no-no, because you set up a rythmic motion that your enemy cannot help but use to his advantage

Woah, your characters are amazing. Most people leave out something, like the hair not moving or head not bobbing or something when they animate, but you nail every last detail.

although this is well made, it just doesn't give off that battle ready vibe. if you're going to make him bounce, it'd look better if he bounced back and forth from foot to foot whcih would make him shift his weight from side to side; moreover, that'll give a more battle ready feel, the ability to go in either direction.
