No, no. I find it quite good. I think you're one of the artists who have improved the lot around here along with Mandrill.
@specialmin64 & Romson: Thanks :)
@Zizka: Thanks a lot! Although since this piece is kind of old, it almost sounds like you're saying it's a lot worse than my new stuff
I'd try to tone down the shadows more than the highlights; and to only keep hints of them, not the whole girth.
Actually the whole underside of the horns should be much brighter, considering the upwards light source and the teeth / chin / nose highlights.
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
@Manupix: I see what you mean. Would you tone down the bright outlines in color, or keep the color but make the outlines a bit weaker?
The face is awesome, great presence esp the eyes.
The horns don't work so well IMO: the shading doesn't help reading their volumes (the highlights should be much stronger), their perspective as indicated by the 'segments' looks wrong, and those segments are used as plain outlines rather than textures: they should just be suggested instead of all drawn out.
This is so cool. I love it. Love the colors and I love the lighting. Just great!
@Hiuru: Thanks! And I agree. I actually had a super fancy animation in mind, but I kept having to simplify it for the requirements of this website. In the end, it never showed up on the front page anyway, so... to hell with it.
@Mandrill: Much appreciated! I think you're right about the chin. Will fix that. Btw, I'm surprised you didn't call me out on the blatant use of Tyranid carapace.
Looks awesome, but i think your piece would benefit from a better preview...Only reason i clicked it was because i knew it was you after seeing the WIPs on the forums and whatnot. IMO You should just show the actual piece on the preview
I've followed your progression on this piece over at Pixelation. Very interesting stuff. I espacially like how you changed the midtones in the later stages.
You did a fantastic job. The face and horns look quite vivid and the palette is pretty harmonic. Really good spacing on the forehead. Amazing work!
My only point of criticism is the highlight on his chin. It should be pulled up a tiny bit to leave enough space for a shadow. Looks too pointy in my opinion. ;)
That's very kind of you to say. Thanks a lot :)
