I tried to participate on the last weekly, which was to depict a Lovecraftian scene as a game mockup, and I had the idea, but couldn't take part in. So, when this "Penguin" challenge appeared, I HAD to do something.

This was inspired by "At The Mountains of Madness", and shows how life can be hard for a blind, albino penguin inside a cavern overtaken by the Tekeli-li happy Shoggoth. The light was supposed to come from a lantern carried by the viewer, but there was no good way to convey it on such small space, so I choose to leave it at that.

Also, I did this while listening to Contra's "Alien's Lair".

 Haha, it's a failed unfinished piece for a very old challenge involving parallax scrolling :)

I thought it was appropriate as an emoticon here :D

Hope the shoggoth doesnt squish them!

Weee, more Lovecraft! Great idea and good execution! Such a memorable, but random moment in a Lovecraft novel. "Did I just read... 'albino penguin'?"

Out of interest though, why black & white? You rarely see anything on PJ with a pure black, white and grey palette. Is it because albinos are often colour blind?
