so I'm just now getting around to seeing this after checking out your most recent piece. I did a double take a first and was like, wait, where have I seen those clouds before?!
haha, this is great, and it's awesome I was able to inspire you! your stuff just keeps getting better, too, so keep it up sir.
I think I see what you mean. Maybe it looks funny due to the really round and symmetric hill?
The angle of the tree bothers me for some reason.
But hey, weekly spotlight! Well done man!
Fantastic idea! I'll give it a spiffy update icon ;)
Being in the weekly feels like I've won the lottery :P
@serrival underb0ss and lucas
Thanks chaps C:
A great update. It looks great now.
fyi, its a good idea when you update a piece as much as you have here and especially when it hits the WS to upload a new preview that says 'updated' or something similar to that so PJers that already viewed the pixel know to click again. I generally revisit most pixels looking for things that may be happening like fights, drama and whatever may need attention which is why I see the update but otherwise I would never have seen it. This is just advise for all not a must do or order.
Whoa, I love what you did with the curve of the ground! Makes the piece much more dynamic. Great choice; it's looking really good right now. Good work!
Heyo, it's awesome to see you comment on here ;).
Alrighty so first off, I added one more color and replaced the purple on the tree with it. I also pushed the darker color in so it doesn't look so drastic but I think it looks a bit better than before.
I tried shifting the saturation of the middle green but I couldn't do it too much or else it started to look wonky.
I switched the rock a lot. I think I fixed the lighting problem and I trimmed that huge pixel cluster a lot! The rock itself still looks a little WIPish so it kinda needs some more work but is it better than before?
I took another peek at your tree and I think I managed to fix the lines a bit, maybe I should make them even more curvy?
@orange08
Thanks! I think I fixed the tree a bit, it's still going to under go a lot more changed probably!
@Baianinho
Why thank you!
i like this very much and the clouds look nice
my only complaint is the dark outlining on the left side of the tree, it seems too dark... or too thick...
Nice job, I'm glad I was able to inspire someone. I have some suggestions for you:
I don't think the shading on the dark side of tree works, it kinda just looks a big outline, and since it's only on the edge, makes it look like the whole tree is one big object, and a flat one at that. Don't be able to add another color if you feel you need to. But I think a 1px unAA'd line is fine, especially in shadows.
Since you outlined the grass against the sky, I would outline it against the rock too, just to be consistant.
I know there is a debate on colors, some people like to throw in some less saturated colors (I haven't figure out why) but I don't think it works for this style, and would make that middle green closer in saturation to the other two so that it fits in more.
The rock on the right is the best looking rock, but the lighting doesn't make sense in relation to the tree, which suggests the light is coming from the right, where the rock has a big shadow. It's also the biggest cluster of black in the picture, which kind of sticks out when it shouldn't, as it's not an integral part of the picture.
And lastly, the lines on your tree, the barky ones aren't very natural looking. The angles, especially since they're parallel are very rigid, and you should try to give it more natural curving lines.
Keep up the good work
Thanks! The clouds definitely wouldn't have turned out like they are if it weren't for Dex's amazing piece.
I lightened up the outline a bit more though I'm not sure if it's still too dark. As for the roots, I'm still working on them. Those roots are finicky fellows indeed ;)
@NeoBerserker
Hehehe, I actually just noticed that right now C:
Nice, is that cloud at the top right intended to have the shape of a finger :P?
Hmm, I know what you mean. I was thinking of putting the tree on a hill of some sort but I thought that that may be copying Skeddles piece a bit too much. I'll think about what I can add to fix that (maybe I could turn this into a floating island to solve that problem?)
EDIT: I fixed up the horizon problem by planting the tree on a perrty hill ;)
Oh, this is very cute! I love the shapes of the clouds. Nice and bubbly!
I'd like to suggest lightening the outline around the leaves of the tree, as it seems too dark and gives an unfinished look compared to the polish of the rest of the scene.
Also, the color palette gives off a cheery and happy atmosphere, so you did a great job with it.
And to your edit: I personally like the roots at the bottom. Maybe add more lighting and shape if you don't think they look correct?
Hahaha, nah, those two dithered clouds were always there :P.
Cool piece! :)
Clouds are killer! I like the colours and how you did the clusters on the trunk. Nice job with the grass too, dunno why you only rendered it near the shadows though.
The perspective with the frontal view and straight horizon looks boring and incorrectly drawn. In addition I feel like something is missing to complete the composition... someone or something leaning against the tree could help.
Is it just me or did you just move that dithered cloud to the bottom left? lol.. Although for some reason it doesn't hurt my eyes as much down there. Must be that focal point right in the middle of the image that made it so painful.
I will say though, I did really like the color and location of the cloud you removed.. I just think if it wasn't all dither it would have been great.
(Also what King bobston said )
Anyway, great improvement on an already awesome image.
I like it.
There seems to be a "happy little accident" on the right of the treetop. At least I doubt that the blue 3px line is supposed to be there.
I fixed the shading a bit, a tad better?
@Jal and FlyGuy
Y'all just racsist to dithering :P.
But it shall be done!
@CELS
Thank you! It's awesome to hear that from ya :D
"I'm really turned off by that top center cloud that is 100% dither"
TOTALLY!!!
I'm really turned off by that top center cloud that is 100% dither. -- I also think if the shadows below the rocks/tree obeyed the lighting direction you picked for the tree top it would feel more cohesive.
All in all, this is a really great image. I particularly like the style you used for the leaves.
YIKES! You're comment made my day! Thank you so much!
