Well, this isn't dithering, I'm afraid. I think you need to take a closer look at the dithering tutorials. Dithering is usually accomplished with set patterns rather than random pixels, because the objective is to create a seamless transition between two colours. You're combining two colours to create a third, almost. This doesn't work when there's too much contrast between the colours, because then it just looks like bright dots on a dark background, such as here.
You've done a very good job of shading this gargoyle, so if you would just clean up the noisy pixels, get rid of all the bright dots, avoid using dithering untill you are more experienced with pixel art, then this would be a much better piece!
Did you use a photo or a painting as a reference? If so, could you post a link?
Oh, well, I know I didn't use dithering as I went quite randomly, I wanted to have more of a feel than a solid tecnique since I still really can't gasp the tecnique. The dot's here and there who don't mix well, where a addition ( like in the abdomen). I added them at the end, just because I felt that they where needded...don't know why. As for the picture, I did draw it, but I don't have a digital copy. Sorry.
So I should take out every bright pixel? I'll try it out.
Thanks for the reply, I really wanted to get a comment like this one!
Dithering is really a mistery for me, probaly I just rely too much over AA.
