Challenge looked fun and I've done a slight NES Mega Man revamp before so I thought I'd have a go.  Seems I'm still in in the 'Robo-zone' of my current game project so this happened...

Preview is RoboCop colours.  Main file is Mega Man colours.  Best viewed zoomed in and blocky as intended (looks cruddy at your normal high resolution).   NES palette and limits.   Same sort of thing as the original Mega Man sprite with the overlayed skin tone sprite on the face.  Unlike my other sprites for this challenge, this one is built to the size and proportions of the original Mega Man sprite.

Hm, now that I sit back and look at it, the idea just seems so... right... Y'know?

Other alternate palettes (like Mega Man does when changing weapons) can be seen at

Updated: Now comes without helmet too. :P

Very cool! Instantly recognizable despite the small size :)

vimmel (Level 5 Detective) @ 5/2/2014 04:00

Great combo man! Love it :)

Heh I dunno.  I just love the old Robo.  Did the ED-209 for this contest too and was quite pleased how detailed and readable it came out in 3 colors and 32x32.   Got to do a bigger and wide-pixel version for my game though.

AlexHW (Level 5 Detective) @ 5/1/2014 11:10

jeeze, yea that must be why. I was a fan of robocop when I was little, so maybe that helps me recognize the similarities. It's interesting how styles can cross over to others, and I think it is cool that you're tapping into that style or whatever you want to call it.

Carnivac (Level 8 Behemoth) @ 5/1/2014 10:59

Heh.  Yeah I saw that and found it amusing.  I done ED-209 as well.  I wasn't aware that my Mega Man X one would remind any one of RoboCop as well.  Maybe it's just the similarities in basic look or the fact I've just done so much RoboCop lately with my CPC-style fangame and having a collection of over 25 Robo figures.  :P

AlexHW (Level 5 Detective) @ 5/1/2014 10:52

oh what the.. haha.. I just commented on your other megaman and said it reminded me of robocop... then I saw this and was like.. what?!.. lol

Carnivac (Level 8 Behemoth) @ 4/29/2014 05:58

We don't have to but I chose to because I wanted to and I think it worked out ok.

Zizka (Level 10 Deep Blue) @ 4/29/2014 05:38

I was wondering if we had to respect the NES limitations...

Cool idea!

inphy (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 4/28/2014 22:01

It looks great, very readable.

EZKOI (Level 5 Sniper) @ 4/28/2014 20:52

It can´t be better.

JustinGameDesign (Level 8 Marshal) @ 4/28/2014 20:46

Yeah, I guessed the artist by the theme as well. Nice work. Looks great.

Mr.Fahrenheit (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 4/28/2014 19:09

Saw the preview "hmm robocop?, hmm Carnivac?" Clicked it, yep.

Really nice sprite, and very well rendered.
