nice bubbly dithering! it really shows the bony texture!
Thank you very much!
Haha, that's up to your imagination ;)
Great monster and colors. :D I'd love to see the whole creature.
I really love this one! I'm a big fan of monsters, and this is very dynamic!
@ pixel chicken
Thanks a ton! Great to hear that you like the tutorial. :)
Hehe

Thank you, Bob! I really appreciate you taking the time and writing a comment like this!
I've never done that. Very interesting indeed, but can't read it either. There isn't much vocabulary left from my school days. ;)
Version 1 had a much darker border and looked a bit weird. I felt the upper right spot needed something in order to get a more harmonic composition. Glad you like it.
You are right, breaking through thick ice head first requires something a bit harder than flesh and a tiny jaw. A horn would be ideal, but very hard to make readable without sacrificing most of the face. More of a designe choice, luckily the ref miniature had all of this already... can't find the pic anymore unfortunately. :(
I keep searching though! ;)
That would be horrible, and twice as bad for a good kisser!
Thanks again! I imagine this thing would have a body quite similar to that of the earliest synapsids, which lived during the permian..... larger arms and thorax of course.
You would not believe how happy i am that you linked that tutorial
Thank you so much
(also fantastic work)
Er will nur spielen...

Slowly catching up :)
I can see some tyranid in it but never thought about nurgle demon.
Have you tried googling Vultus horrificus?
I can't read it but I find the result still interesting.
Can't complain about critique much except that I find the area in the right upper corner a bit wierd but contrast wise it works out anyway and looks nice.
Very interesting anatomy on this one, I always find animals with a bigger lower jaw wierd (althrough a much bigger upper jaw looks wierd to me, too).
It must've had some tough predetors or prey to have evolved an exoskeleton with that size (on the other hand, you have to be kind of insane/stupid to evolve your delicious meat around your skeleton instead of inside it, that's just asking for it )
Must really hurt if it accidently bites in it's tongue through
Anyway, great piece and nice creature design (would like to see the miniature)! Would love to see more of the body or how it looks from other angles althrough this way wondering about how it would look is also nice
Thank you, buddy!
No, not even there. I'm a PJ exclusive. ;)
I reckon such sites as DA, Twitter, Tumblr and what not would help me to get more popular with the "pixel"/low-res/8-bit crowd, but I don't feel safe there.I might will start to post stuff on these sites one day though.
But for now, I rather stay with this great community full of people I really like.
thanks and congrats on the win! are you on deviantart at least?
No worries. I'm glad it's somewhat helpful to you. :)
I never have been active on tumblr to be honest. I merely registered to save me a good name with Mandrill in it if I ever decide to start posting my stuff there.
awesome, thanks for that tutorial, something i can learn from for sure. are you still active on Tumblr?
Thanks a ton, man!
I never use NPA stuff as underpaintings. I always begin with compiling a palette I think could fit the topic and then start straight up pixelling. First, I fill the canvas with one of the mid-tones and then lay down the strongest shadows with my darkest colour.
I actually wrote a little tutorial on how I pixel.
Check it out :)
this is unbelievably cool. did you draw it high res first or did you straight up pixelled it?
Thank you very much jok, means a lot coming from someone who knows the pixels. :)
very good - strong contrast, nice palette - I like this blue motive
Wow, man! You are giving me way to many compliments. Thank you very, very much, I feel really flattered. ;)
I'm working on a few pieces at the moment. I hope to upload at least one of them very soon.
Thanks again, feel free to use the palette. :)
damn.... just DAMN... this is so awesome I want to frame it and put it above my bed :D you never disappoint, Mandrill. I'm already eager about seeing what else you 've got up your sleeve
btw. LOVE the color palette
I had to look that up; you are right, same basic concept.
Thank you!

Yeah, it bears a likeness to the guy from Slaughterhouse , one of the characters from Blizzard's new IP, and, of course, a tyranid carnifex (Especially the jawline and teeth)
@ dami 1310
Awesome to hear, thank you very much!
It reminds me of something; it's like I've seen this monster before. Maybe there's jut something real about it.
@ azurealsky
Hehe, I wish I were! No extraordinary skills involved unfortunately. I merely try to stick to the rules of pixel art... magic sounds less boring though! Thanks a bunch! ;)
@ drain
Again, I'm more than glad to hear that my pixels are taking this route. Thanks a ton. :)
@ eishiya
Thank you very much for your critique. :)
I see what you mean, but I have to disagree on that it is not what I intented. The red is only there for balancing the quite cool colours of the rest of the palette. It has been my intention to leave the shadow barely visible in order to give it a green/blueish overall look.
But you are right about that a softer transition with a more neutral colour and brighter red would enhance the balance... if it wasn't for the ice planet theme though. ;)
@ Ubisavis
Thank you! That is one of the ways to show that the other half of the face is a bit further back. ;)
Your comment slipped through somehow...
You are too kind, thanks a lot buddy! :)
