You are a god!
How did you paint the kid? did you have references of a picture or something?
My mortal mind cannot even imagine the process behind it.
I love it, really quite eerie. I don't get the context, but I'm imagining The Walking Dead .. haha.
I was thinking more of a confederate flag as a rag or bandanna hanging out his/your pocket or something. However, this is subtle enough to work just as well.
Baring some adjustments, what I like about it most is, how it visualizes that the horror of the violence is not given part of play along the toy gun. The kid plays in a different reality of the same topic. And so I like even further how the Confederate flag tries to hide in the harmless reality of the kid.
I've updated the image to include a (subtle) Confederate flag. Let me know what you think.
@Theoden, Bark Snarly: Thanks for the input, I'll play around with the suggestion and see how I like it.
You are correct. I used several Civil War photographs as reference.
I appreciate specifically that he is not more planted in this scene. It's clever.
This is fantastic, really love the clusters you've got going on here!
I agree with Theoden though, some grayscale on the char might help him look a bit more planted in the piece. He does seem just a touch 'glued on' currently.
Dunker Church at Antietam, isn't it?
Excellent piece.
Digging the background.
I think some grayscale ramps on the char might have been good. A grayish ramp phasing to full color starting from his feet up to his body. But I am not sure if that would fit the concept in your mind.
Stunning work as always Cure.
This absoluty beatiful! Good damn work Cure! I love your works so much!
No, honestly I wish I could've found a way to include the flag. Originally I had a tattered version of the flag from the original overlapping parts of this image, but it looked a little cliched. I considered putting a Confederate flag on his T-shit, but felt that would be too busy. Might still try to find a way to include it, as I agree that it better tied the piece to the cultural conflict at hand.
I'm curious, was this re-done in response to the whole confederate flag fiasco? I like the background here, but artistically speaking, I feel the original had a bit more to add to the conversation artistically speaking.
Otherwise, technique and pixeling is as good, if not better, than ever. Love seeing your stuff as always, Logan.
reference photo, same for the 'newt' piece. they're both physical photographs so you'll just have to take my word for it.
