Nice work! It's kind of messy (especially the trees) but it reminds me of some nice old shmups. Not sure if it's technically pixel art, though, between the rotations and the use of alpha.

This reminds me a little bit of Mother 3. Which is to say, clean, colorful, and stylish. Good work!

I guess it just looks odd to me that so much of the controller is... cradled by her hands? It's hard to explain. Like, I feel like she should be holding it closer to its edges. But maybe that's just how I hold an SNES controller. :)

This is a good piece, but does anyone actually hold an SNES controller like that?

It is odd that the lighthouse illuminates itself, come to think of it. And the polished, detailed look once things are lit up kind of doesn't mesh with how basic the look is when it's dark. But I really like the idea and the way you did the snow, so I voted for it.

Haha, I didn't even notice this was a challenge entry at first. Nicely done.

I like this a lot. Very neatly pixelled, and I like the use of shadow and the coloration.

Has some flaws - the reflection of the mountain should be right below it - but I think this has tons of potential as a style and is a great imitation of the Hiroshige/Hokusai woodcut style.

shouldn't it be the liver doing that? :P

You make these colors look like they're supposed to go together.

I definitely prefer to think of this as a phoenix tree and not a game animation. It loops so beautifully.

Jabber @ 6/24/2013 10:18 commented on Rotating Crystal

It looks almost more like a diamond-shaped window with a rocky background moving behind it, if that makes sense. It doesn't feel quite like a rotating 3d object to me, but I can't place what's wrong.

This is excellent. Makes me feel a bit nostalgic for the ol' northwest.

user

It seems wrong to me that all the leaves are behind the trunk, but I really like the style here.

Jabber @ 6/17/2013 13:55 commented on Barcelona Skyline

I agree with the other critiques; a piece like this could definitely use more AA, and the reflection is too clear and doesn't waver in the way real ones do. Also, I would add that the clouds are too blocky; they don't look natural. I really like the reflected lights by the mountain over to the left though, and the overall color scheme is striking.

user
Jabber @ 6/17/2013 13:52 commented on Waterfall

It's simple, and I don't really like the way the rocks look (they lack texturing and are very blocky, they're not smooth and rounded like rocks in water tend to be), but I like that you just used shades of gray for the water, and the impression of falling water created here is pretty convincing. It could use work though. In particular, the rocks in the waterfall don't seem to make any break in the flow of the water occur.

Jabber @ 6/17/2013 13:48 commented on Please Recycle

I really like this. I'd say the shapes are hard to read, but they have a  distinctive style to them that I like... all sort of rounded. I think the lack of AA and the limited palette work well for this piece.

user
Jabber @ 6/17/2013 13:42 commented on Floating Island

The top left and bottom right are too dithery for me, but the lighting on the trees and grass are very well done. The saturated yellow highlights give an effective impression of bright sunlight.

I like these. They're playful and readable. Are they original characters?

user
Jabber @ 6/5/2013 08:44 commented on Snowy Mockup

Wow. Looks kind of like it belongs on the SNES, yet the shading style isn't really like anything I can think of on there.

user
Jabber @ 6/5/2013 08:42 commented on Rusher run cycle

I really like it. It's kind of cute in a way. The only problem really is that the legs are too close in color, making it a little hard to easily make out which is in front. I think the shade of blue on the back leg should be slightly darker.

The ground and the leaves are gorgeous in this one. I also like the character. The tree trunks don't look good to me though, and the footbridge is a little messy.

I think this is reallly cool. The colors and perspective and texture are all interesting.

Jabber @ 6/2/2013 22:57 commented on moth mario

from the preview I thought it was supposed to be a Pikachu. Regardless though, I like the character. The ground is a little messy though. I think the colors are maybe not the best; particularly the two shades you used on the pipe - they seem too close together and kind of clash as a result.
