Pixel Art Challenge: Pixel-graphy
News Details
Stickman challenges you to think pixel fonts from the pixel artist perspective.
Not as single color bitmaps, but using pixelart techniques to create your typeface.
So, pixel the numbers 0 - 9 and the alphabet in either UPPERCASE or lowercase
(or both if you're feeling adventurous and have time) in your own creative way.
Colours: More than 2 (excludes transparency) but less than 32 colors.
Canvas Size: No real restrictions, but this is not for newspaper 'war' headlines, k.
Transparency: Allowed
SPECIAL NOTE: No external AA.
The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

The oldest technique for making fonts like these was to make a template, of, say, gold or stone or whatnot, and then 'cut out' letters from it and then reword where needed. Like, you make a neatly pixelled block of 16*32 pixels and then carve from it.You can search the web for some amiga megademo screenshots (late 80s/early 90s) for examples.

@Skamocore: English only as I feel it would be more cool and interesting to see all the participants different styles of the same alphabet.

Cool, I made a gameboy styled alphabet a while back that would be perfect for this. Too bad I can't enter it.

lets only hope there aren't too much of what i call pupil magazine styled fonts
i'd do a 'flexible cheerleaders'-font if i had the time.. so in case someone here is unemployed or in custody currently =)

So, as I understand it, we have to mock some existing font? Does it have to work as a typeface 'wink wink'? TrueType?

i'm interested to see how this pans out, I don't really consider typography art but we'll see what kind of entries come down the river.

you can't antialias it to the backgroundalso...I predict this will have a lot of entries :D...should be good
