This is more or less old news now, but as I've only found it recently, I thought to share this with you :)
Autodesk Animator was an oldskool 2d animation and painting program for MS-DOS, originally made in 1989. It was considered to be a groundbreaking application at the time, and it introduced me to the world of pixelart. I've spent countless hours in Animator back when I was a kid, and I'm sure that at least some of the PixelJoint community is familiar with it.
As it turns out, Jim Kent, one of the programmers who'd made this brilliant gem of a program, kept the copyright to the Animator source code, and has recently given the permission to make Animator available as opensource. There are even plans to port it and make it cross-platform!
It currently requires DOS to run, and I'm pleased to say that it runs flawlessly in DOSBox.
