Teamwork competition

We're going to try a new kind of compo here at PJ. There will be participation awards for everyone involved so be sure to take part!

This teamwork compo works as following:
Everyone has a bit over two weeks to submit line art, or any image which uses only 2 colors (which matches the image requirements and theme). The day after the first submission deadline you will receive a message containing line art from another random participant, you will have 3 weeks to finish this other persons work into a colored pixel art.

After the competition is over, non-part taking PJ mods and selected judges will look at the end results and select a top 3. Both the submitter of the line art and the submitter of the final result will receive trophies, so you can win twice! Everyone who submits both a line art and a colored artwork will receive an award.

Image requirements:

The theme for the image is: An unlikely couple

Canvas Size - exactly 150x100 or 100x150
Colors - Max. 32 for finished work, exactly 2 colors for line art.
Transparency - No.
Animation - No.

How to submit line art:
Upload your line art externally (I recommend imgur) and send the image link to me (hapiel) in a PM on the forums, or the gallery site. If you're having trouble, you can also email it to me, but be sure to include your PJ nickname. My address:

I would recommend not to share your line art in public. Possibly the receiver of your line art might contact you, but I think it's more exciting when we all discover who made what at the end. I will post a list of all participants when the line art phase is over.

If you submit line art you are expected to also take part in the coloring phase, for which you should have plenty of time. If you are unsure if you are able to do this, please do not submit line art. It would make everyone involved really sad if some line art is left uncolored...

You're allowed only one entry per person, so make it count!

Deadline of submission: Sunday 29th of April

How to submit the final colored image
Once you receive your line art on the 30th of April you can start working on the final image.
You can submit your colored artwork to the PJ gallery.
Please add the tag "teamwork", that way your artwork will be easier to find. You can also share your artwork in this forum thread.
You should credit your partner and possibly link to his line art in the description of your artwork.

Deadline of submission: Sunday 20th of May

Friday 13th of April - Sunday 29th of April Lineart Phase
Monday 30th of April - Sunday 20th of May Coloring Phase.

Good luck everyone, and I'm looking forward to receive your entries!

Feel free to ask questions below.

oo! - sounds cool

I will try to draw something

Puzan (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 4/18/2018 15:18

Ah, got it, I thought it had something to do with the submission of the line art

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/18/2018 12:10

You can create an image based on the line art. You're welcome to modify the piece in any way you like, kind of like how you would paint over a sketch. In the coloring phase you can use up to 32 colors.

Puzan (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 4/18/2018 12:06

What is meant by the colouring phase? Do you have to fill specific areas using two colours to give a volume to the line art? Im confused.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/17/2018 06:24

Rule update as requested: You can now choose the canvas orientation for your lineart, either 150x100 or 100x150

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/16/2018 03:16

it's even 3 weeks for the second part, I don't want anyone to find an excuse not to finish the second half ;)

Nevercreature (Level 9 Whale Shark) @ 4/16/2018 01:52

It is interesting!  2 weeks for each phase is a good term.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/15/2018 01:04

of course, even both can be inanimate objects!

DexRunner (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 4/14/2018 22:51

That would seem to be very unlikely... And possibly unfortunate.

jackhummer (Level 2 Corporal) @ 4/14/2018 14:21

An unlikely couple? Can one of them be an inanimate object?

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/14/2018 12:31

yes dex, you are correct .But if you are located in a zone where imgur is blocked I can surely find an alternative way :)

DexRunner (Level 7 Sheriff) @ 4/14/2018 09:36

How will the lineart-to-be-colored be distributed?  Will we receive a PM from you on the 30th containing the imgur link?

Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 4/13/2018 23:59

this sounds very cool :)

Theoden (Level 10 Operative) @ 4/13/2018 14:52

Interesting idea.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/13/2018 14:37

Updated the top post to make it more clear that there is a theme to this compo: An unlikely couple. You're welcome to interpret the theme in any way you like, but it is probably helpful to your future random partner if he/she can understand what you're trying to depict ;)

Also I added a rule: Only one submission set per person.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/13/2018 14:32

You're welcome to interpret it your way, any 2 color image which your future partner can use as a base will do.

You can find some ancient examples of line art here

Kosvid (Level 4 Button Man) @ 4/13/2018 14:14

What does exactly mean "line art"?

JerryPie (Level 11 Big Foot) @ 4/13/2018 13:43

This should be very entertaining.

Hapiel (Level 11 Bonsai) @ 4/13/2018 12:13

In that case I am very much looking forward to your submission :D

slym (Level 8 Rear Admiral) @ 4/13/2018 11:56

ooooooooooo yes this is very good I like this very much
