| | Niss @ 6/17/2007 12:37:05 PM commented on Big Bird You can actually do quite funny things with these translation loops(I think I did a few thinks with babelfish). It's about the same level as projecting video on a wall, recording it reprojecting it etc. (adding noise like copying good old vhs cassettes). Of course the real fun begins if you do more with the data than adding noise, like scanning the pj chatterbox > translate/loop it > post it to chatterbox > scan the responses > repeat

| | Niss @ 6/11/2007 8:16:06 AM commented on Big Bird Yeah, the mouse is a bit difficult sometimes - it scrolls damn fast but you can decrease the scroll speed in-game. But I find the game super hard - I never managed to finish it once (of course I never chose the easiest difficulty level since I'm a veteran of xcom 1. Hey I have my pride!). So anybody ever managed to finish it?

 | Niss @ 5/2/2007 1:06:27 PM commented on Selfish portrait @bob: Now now I will not start to build my own monuments... yet :) Actually I didn't even intend these things under the nose to be the lines you were talking off - just the transition of the lights. And I can't remember when I was that cleanly shaved either :) It's always most difficult to do self-portraits - at least for me.
@gas: I aa'ed the hair without thinking - Since I plan to do an animated bg that antialiased hair will then be a big pain in the arse - I already see it coming. I realized that too late though.
@everyone: I t might remind of an illustration because I tried to give it that vexel look. Vexel meaning that clearly defined colour-blocks are used instead of soft transitions/gradients. It's quite hot with web-illustrators for some time now - google it, it's worth looking at it. I don't think there's much pixelart with that look but I seem to remember one piece from Kon, the big portrait of an amazon warrior that could be named "vexel". Uh oh well - thank's everybody for dropping by.

You know, when I looked at it zoomed in today it had that same look like when you didn't match the right channel on tv when connecting your snes or whatever but were very close to it.
Stop STOP you're almost there I can already see the capcom logo! Aww good ol' times :)

Those shakeys of yours are always awesome.
Wasn't there a neat trick on the c64 switching images like this to simulate a far higher colourcount than possible with that resolution (I might mix it up with some other platform but I don-ät think so)?

 | Niss @ 4/16/2007 1:25:48 PM commented on Anika On the shield and other leg and some "stray" pixels all around that mark the beginning of some loose dithering :) anyway I only meant that those pixels could be a bitch when animating and the colours are close enough to skip the dithering.
 |
|---|
 | Niss @ 4/15/2007 11:50:59 AM commented on Anika whoa great!
I think you don't really need the dithering but it isn't a big thing - only if you're ever going to animate it :)

Over here it's only gales and floods (well actually we have some absolutely stunning bright and warm spring weather right now!). And with the marvelous dikes the floods only swallow some parking lots (+cars) down at the harbour if they are high enough - so nothing fancy...

| | Niss @ 4/13/2007 5:24:42 AM commented on Big Bird Ink I'll join you in a moment ripping the world to shreds, just my thoughts on this commentor thingy:
Most often the best crits come from people who are not so well versed technically in that specific topic. That's what I got for an impression at artschool anyway. Of course that doesn't mean great artists can't give great crits too - it's just that an outside perspective away from technical details often helps. Although all examples of crits here were purely technical so far (that's ok there are most errors anyway). Attention is always more interesting than absence I think but what I discovered here (and at pixelation) are that some crits are getting repetitive. Like "Outline, dithering, use some hue shifting jap jap jap". It's like a template: I've got the impression some people read the crits of others and copy some points. Than someone else comes along, sees "Holy shit, 2 people already said that the anatomy is off so I really should mention it too" and so on. That might be a good reason to skip over crits when you otherwise would have read them with great interest.
Enough said I need to get out into the sun - bye bye.
