I had a bit of free time today so I made myself an avatar.
It started innocent enough, but soon I got lost in all the metal highlights and angles and stuff, and it doesn't make much sense anymore, but it was fun! :D
I'm thinking about animating it maybe. Can anyone suggest a good program for animating pixel art?

Simply brilliant!
I like your avatar even more than this picture. That 'flatten/stretched' look, and those mad eyes... :D

This is my favourite of your avatars.

AwesomePossum (Level 1 Thug) at 3/19/2007 8:29:42 PM
This is awesome to me for some reason. And I think Graphics Gale is the best!

WOW!... hehe man you are a monster!!!... hehehe... i love your style! =D

iLKke (Level 8 Cannibal) at 3/12/2007 3:56:44 PM
Yes well, you have a sharp eye.  The face wasn't originally 'chiseled out', and the mouth is the only part that was left unchanged.

miascugh (Level 4 Team Leader) at 3/12/2007 3:14:22 PM
Wow, you sure went on a commenting frenzy heh. I really dig your gallery, and your first avatar already caught my eye when I first saw it. I really like this one as well, and the only portion that might occur overdone is the area around the mouth, but I actually like smoothness of it. Smooth and still defining the shape, not blurry yet. I really like the colors of this as well.

I love the mix of ditherstyles, and the overall smoothness+sharpness you've got going, really nice to look at.

tomic (Level 11 CEO) at 2/28/2007 9:39:12 AM

if there would be such a thing then this would get the avatar-of-the-month-award if you ask me..

beautiful combination of clean+stylish nuskool- and good old demoscenish metallic look, i love this a lot.. faved

exocet (Level 5 Captain) at 2/28/2007 4:46:19 AM

Great, I like it a lot... Good sense of depth and shape once again. Love the sharp angles too!

I'd recommend Promotion as well for animating, it's basically a slightly improved Dpaint for Windows and animation features are really straightforward.

niiiiice. the newest edition of photoshop has animation tools too, works better for me than crappy imageready.

Josiah (Level 8 Marshal) at 2/27/2007 6:24:07 PM

nice work! and about an animating program, I usually use Macromedia Fireworks now since it takes less time to open than Photoshop and image ready. I just use graphics gale to help me make the animations.

khorin (Level 1 Gangster) at 2/27/2007 5:16:24 PM
Definitely doesn't look overdone to me. Great job!

rabidbaboy (Level 4 Shichikyu) at 2/27/2007 4:46:28 PM
Oh, man, how do you guys choose your colors, they blend so well.
It still has that metallic look to me, so I guess you did great.
Err, faved.

Ego (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 2/27/2007 1:57:17 PM
What. That's the damn blend function. Layers, playback, save as .gif. Give me anything and I'll animate it in GIMP.

eckered (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 2/27/2007 1:29:46 PM

promotion or microsoft gif animater are good.

photoshop is a bit expencive if you dont alerady own it.

gimp is terrible for animating.  end of story.  blur+ somehow auto AA= animation desaster.

grahpicsgale-never bothered liearning this program, so i dont know what this is like.

iLKke (Level 8 Cannibal) at 2/27/2007 1:03:55 PM
Thanks for all the suggestions and support!

ptoing (Level 7 Underboss) at 2/27/2007 12:22:53 PM
I really like this, the subtle greys are neat.

Yes, Promotion is very good. www.cosmigo.com/promotion

If you used DPaint (which I think you have) you should not take too long getting used to PM.

Opacus (Level 7 Ichikyu) at 2/27/2007 12:08:44 PM
Looks good, try Pro Motion.

Ego (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 2/27/2007 12:00:15 PM
I like, alot.
GIMP is great, but can take a while to learn.

Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) at 2/27/2007 11:51:11 AM
i like this.  i have always admired the "surrealist" style.  i dont know if thats what you call it, but i do like it :)

Badassbill (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 2/27/2007 11:31:36 AM
The problem with the graphics gale free trial is that you can't save as .GIF or any other animated format besides .GAL. I'd suggest "GIF Movie Maker" for GIF making. And it looks great btw.

iLKke (Level 8 Cannibal) at 2/27/2007 10:04:19 AM
Thanks for the advice. I also used imageready several times, but I just hope that there is a more elegant/intuitive solution.

The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) at 2/27/2007 10:00:14 AM
Not overdone at all! Looks great though, I must say. You've still achieved some metal-likeness, in my opinion. As far as good animation programs, I honestly wouldn't know. I just use Adobe ImageReady CS, which came with photoshop(even though I still use mspaint, instead ps, to pixel). However, it has it's set backs, such as creating a layer for every single slide/frame made. Very annoying. Maybe try downloading Graphics Gale's free demo, to test out it's animation ability? I'm sure there are better opinions, and suggestions out there, other than mine though. I'm very limited, yet satisfied with anything I have...
