The palette’s not doin’ it for me. They grayish colors in with the reds don’t ‘behave’ in that ramp, they burn a bit and make strange dead spots. The moustache/arms color confuses me, because I have no idea what color is really being depicted. You said brown, but I see greys, greens, and blues, which makes it look kinda iridescent. Hope to see the final compilation at PJ soon.
I also think you’re perhaps being a bit too eager to put a highlight in every area, regardless of the strength of light in that area. This kind of method treats the image as lots of separate pieces, rather than a unified whole. As a final note, I think this is slightly over-rendered. There’s a sweet spot you gotta hit, and if you go overboard you can actually lose rather than increase readability and crispness.
Edit:
I ruined the pose I guess, which makes sense if he’s standing atop something but otherwise looks strange. I had a difficult time deciding what direction the light was coming from, it seems like it’s kinda everywhere. The bright highlights in the moustache make it look like shiny plastic instead of hair. Also the moustache intersects with the sides of the>*** Message truncated (4000 chars max) ***
Yeah that's exactly what I just said minus the mock up part. Lol.
He doesn't 'need' to do anything he doesn't want to. I very much enjoy seeing his work and the last few Nintendo ones have appealed to me far more than anything Nintendo's actually done in years. Would be quite nice to see a full game mock up shot in Jinn's style of Super Mario or Zelda or whatever but it's not something I insist he should do. It'll only be really good quality if he enjoys doing it himself.
Don't be offended. You're one of my favorite artists. I just feel you need to throw in perhaps a few scenery pieces every now and then. It's up to you to choose your path, and you're great at what you do :)
dont be offended jinn. trust me, your art style feels fresh every time because it is very original. you dont see this anywhere else done this good.
He looks like a grumpy old man. Other than that it looks cool.
I love your style. I was saying that you should push it to the quality I'm use to. Not a rushed feeling.
Like I told you in private. I look up to you man!!!
i wonder jinn, at some point have you ever considered trying to break apart from doing the same exact desings over and over?
{ I'm not sure, and about you?
Do you feel offended for me to doing the "same thing over and over again"?
Cuz I'm getting offended for getting this kind of comment. Geez...
{ Well, if you are looking for another art style, why don't you look for other artist?
Cuz thats what I do, bro.
And to be honest, my mom keep's saying I'm getting better and better!
The colors just aren't working for me on this one :L
I guess it get's old seeing the same colors and style everytime, but just my opinion.
{ I do have something bigger going behind it...
So to just don't stop to posting (cuz I like to constantly recieve feedback), I'm letting this small pieces going, you know?
Maybe I'm just trying to push you here, I don't know. But I do KNOW.. these last few pieces... still have your style... just not the same class of work if you know what I mean? I don't mean this in a total bad way either man. And I know I couldn't do what you do (as fast as you do it). But these last few have felt a little rushed to me to be honest.
Edit: NOT the Adventure Island one Jinn.
