I guess I still suck at AA :P

It does look nicer than just the red and white outline. Also, is the fact that it only looks like 3 colours (apart from the gradient background being a tad shoddy) not a compliment to the AA? As in, it looks like white on red rather than white, pink and light red on red?

I dunno, I'm still learning. You expect so much from me so soon! ;)

You can bend your leg like that. I'm doing it now. Well, not now but I did it a moment ago.

As for colours, I'm thinking my monitor is brighter/higher contrast than most people's because whilst I cant make out the 3 grass colours individually they certainly help make it less flat-looking.

Oh, and that's not AA under his shirt - it's shading under his belly. He's a golfer, after all.

I'd agree with the arm - more specifically the hand - but that's the best I could manage.I kept trying to bend it a little and it just looked ugly and elongated.
I used this image as reference but I was trying to literally just use it to refer to. I didn't want to try and make a pixel version of the photo, hehe http://www.1st-beginners-golf-swing-tips.com/assets/images/down-swing-1x250.jpg

Yeah, I see what you mean about those eyes.

I'v given him slightly different shading on the face and removed his eyes - I've tried to just suggest a recess where his eye sockets are and accentuated them with some eyebrows. He looked okay without the eyebrows but with the it makes him look a bit older - more like a golfer, hehe.

Yeah, the grass tiling was obvious but I've never dabbled in tiling, so I've thrown together some new grass and given him some eyes... I can't fit much more face in!

Cheers guys

Nice pic, I love the styling. His eyes and eyebrows are awesome!

The smoke does look a little flat, though. The outline looks a bit out of place, too. It does have a great shape to it though.

Nice one

rabidaboy, What you said is twisting my words a bit. If you have made a great piece of pixel art and you open it in PhotoShop, make a new layer and copy it pixel by pixel it is still your own work. If you start with your own work, you finish with your own work. He started with his own work and drew pixels over the top. It is art made from pixels. He drew the pixels. IT's his art. It's his pixel art.

I agree with Fool that slating him for not using specific techniques is unfair. It's not like he just opened the image in PhotoShop, shrunk it, saved it and called it pixel art. Is it?

Yeah, I wanted to keep this really simple. The shadows/highlights from the uzi flare were almost taken out on account of being too complex ;)
As for looking like a zombie worm, I could have gien him more torn flesh, darker eyes, some brains hanging from his mouth, all that jazz but again - simplicity was key here.
The end (the zombie worm getting back up haing reived himself by sucking his own blood) is very fast and there's not real animation of his getting up. I attempted to counter this with speedlines/dirt trails which gently fall to the floor (taking a leaf out of Bill Plympton's book) so hopefully it works for you guys.

Cheers for the comments :D

How do you propose I achieve 60fps when using an internet browser to display the images?

The Worms games run on DirectX which is how they run so smoothly. This is a gif, probably in Firefox. Go figure :P

This is some beautiful work. It may not be considered pixel art by some but the idea was yours originally, you painted it and used it as reference, and you drew each pixel of the submitted piece, so I consider it pixel art. I mean, you used all the techniques used in pixel art and it's 100% your own work. I don't get why everyone is being so pedantic about it.

Gorgeous image, well crafted. Great stuff!

Dark it is, as it is in the flesh. It's all black. As black as black comes. It's a beautiful thing.

Maybe your monitor needs a contrast check? Maybe mine does. Either way it looks okay to me

Noble Clock: Yes, it is bland. I wasn't going for anything especially exciting with this, just trying out what I have learnt. I hope you think I did a good job despite it being bland; it would have been nice to hear what you thought on that matter.

Oh, and thanks E-Magination. Much appreciated.

Awesome work, i you ask me. I really like to powdery look this has. I guess Mullet just sees it as washed out where I see it as subdued/powdery/subtle.

It really looks like a 3D render which has taken a colour drop!

Thanks for the crit :)

I guess on my work monitor the contrast is higher but I'll lighten up the screens themselves.

Also, I did some rough AA on the buttons so I don't know why I didn't think of doing the D-Pad the same... I too thought it was a bit thin.

I shall fix it later. Thanks guys :)

As for the pixels themselves... delicious.
