 This is awesome- the colors, the depth. I really like the rocks, no matter how unrealistic they are.

The only thing I think could use work is the way the girl's hair and dress flow.

The way her hair splits at the end makes it look ragged; I would make most the hair flow into one piece, or have the parts of her hair divide earlier near her head.

As for her dress, the bottom of the skirt is a flat, horizontal line making it look very stiff. The wind would make it blow behind her and layer the cloth. The hemline should vary in levels.

You're a shoo-in, either way!

Your point is valid, your harsh judgment and  melodrama is not, dumbo.

 I'd say she learned a valuable lesson about swording people.

 The blue on the face really isn't working here... I can see it has potential, but that blue is jarring.

Loving this perspective and pallete.

For being 15 colors it lacks depth. Don't be afraid to add contrast. At the moment this looks like it only needs 3 or 4 colors total.

 What type of game has the NPCs nipslpping?

I love it when he pecks! His flapping seems kinda jello-ey htough.

Super cute. :D

 Delicious uses less heavy black outlining, but the colors and shading look pretty similar; took a double-take at it when I was initially reminded of delicious!

Nipples are a tad outward <__>

 Gross!

I know you were going for a really spotty look, but the purple pixels don't blend very well, especially against some single white ones.  I like your creature though!

 Neat Idea, but I can't really tell it's take-out noodles. The shape of the box and the chopsticks could be more clear because this has very good potential.

Cute sprite!  I think a little sheen on the glasses would help make them look less pasted on.

 I really really like this, but the noisey pixels around the lineart are keeping me from loving it.  I'm refering to the bright pixels that pop out around the head/ears and bottoms of the knees. I also see a single bright yellow pixel on his left side.

Get those and it'll be perfect.

 I really like the scene you chose and the chiaroscuro lighting to go with it. The left side of his body could do with a little more clarity, but, eh, time limits.

Tart @ 9/13/2011 12:17 commented on It's me, snowk!

 Not bad! The lineart is nice and the shading is well placed. I think the features of the face are nicely done.

Your colors could do with some editing to make them blend better. Right now each color overpowers the next (especcially the dark red-orange) and makes the face very harsh/shiny rather than soft and fleshy. However, it's good to see someone not being afraid to add contrast.

The other thing is certain shade blocks on the face look unnatural: around the jaw line, on the neck, and the small bumps under the lips. They look lumpy and don't fit the contour of of tthe face.

I wouldn't consider sprites and stuff to be unsubstantial- I promise I was as bored as you when I started drawing that portrait. :P   It's that effort that matters. Glad to be of some inspiration to try new things though. :)

Love the colors and good rough pixel work there. However, I agree with showtime about the anatomy. I hope you find more time for it soon!

Thank you, Helm! I think I understand what you mean about the clusters around the line-art and the banding areas. I'll make some changes.

Thanks again to everyone who faved, commented, or critiqued me!

 @Helm

I'd love to fix them if you're willing to point them out! I'm not sure what you mean by the clashing. I noticed I might of had some banding going on.

Tart @ 9/5/2011 20:33 commented on Guernica3D

 @neofotistou

You're reading the "pretty lady" bit out of context. Since that enemy is based off of "Les demoiselles d'Avignon", you can assume that there would be multiple enemies like her because there are several women in the referenced painting. The dissapointment is in fighting another enemy- not because she is ugly.

These panels are awesome. I really appriciate the time and study put into this piece! Like others have suggested, I wish there were less text and numbers on the screen so I could focus on the artwork more.

EDIT: Regarding the contraversy around Guernica: It doesn't have to be offensive; I understood the game's environment to be a relevant historical accuracy. It is ironic, but in no way does it advocate war anymore than other battle FPS just because of the subject matter.
