The extra colors come from the helmets; I essentially just put colored bubbles on their heads and lowered the opacity on them.

Yep, she's pretty much exactly symmetrical... I basically just copied and pasted the line art. It was a rush job, but when I have time i definitely want to go back in and change some things. The bodies in particular need work, as I was working from a set palette and wasn't really able to properly shade them.

Loving the look! You should try to squeeze as much as you can out of the palette on each sprite, though; the wolf, bird, spider, and zombie feel a bit lacking.

I know that hair must have taken ages, but honestly, the untextured version looks so much better!

The shading is kind of odd, though.

Heh! I wasn't even thinking about that at the time, but yeah, it kind of does. Then again, they're both evil pigs, so...

Haha, oh wow. This is a lot like a Pokemon trainer I designed in April or May of 2009 (right around the same time you posted this!), so maybe I was channeling you at the time.

Unicorn cyclops guy. XD

He's a one-eyed oni, or is at least supposed to be. Maybe rejected isn't quite the right word... The game needed a playable character, but since it's a puzzle game with little story, the character is really just a way to interface with the world (specifically, moving blocks) so the design was left up to me. I created the characters above all at once and showed them to the game's creator, but he didn't like any of them. Well, except for the unicorn cyclops guy; that's one of the four or five designs for the antagonist, and the one he chose.

I think I just grabbed the palette from the first red Pokemon I could find, since I didn't really care about doing a good job on the coloring or shading. A friend of mine actually "finished" the sprite, which can be found here.

The sprite was undershaded so that it would stand out against the multi-colored background of the comic it appeared in, here. As for the colors clashing, well, I didn't design the character.

What? That's how cats sit! Also it has no genitalia as far as I know.

As it says in the description, it's a pixel version of an existing design, so I didn't want to deviate from how it's supposed to look.

If this chicken were used in a game, the coins or whatever it picked up would have to be single pixels...

user
Chesu @ 8/31/2011 07:26 commented on World's Tiniest Chicken

Well, it IS only three frames of animation, so it's not exactly going to be smooth. It was designed to use four (the standing frame used between each step), but honestly that doesn't make too much of a difference with so few frames.

user
Chesu @ 8/31/2011 07:22 commented on World's Tiniest Chicken

A tinierest chicken? Alright, but you brought this upon yourself...

http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/64799.htm

Due to the size (4x5) and number of colors, it doesn't have much of a face, and the animation is a weird little hop. I think this is as small as I can go without it just being an indistinct yellow circle (which it pretty much is already).

user
Chesu @ 8/31/2011 07:07 commented on World's Tiniest Chicken

Done. I assume it was animated in a "standing frame, left foot forward frame, standing frame, right foot forward frame" pattern by the guy I made it for, but I kind of like how it looks with just the three frames looping. I also kept it at original size, so if there's a smudge on your monitor you may miss it.

I'd never really thought about it before, but I see what you mean. This sprite was actually thrown together for a tutorial showing how to make sprites using the MS Paint circle tool, so I wasn't terribly concerned with the small details. I'll keep your remarks in mind for the future, though.

Oh wow, you never hear terms like selout over on PC. :D

I don't really go back and edit years-old pieces, but I see what you mean.

Chesu @ 8/29/2011 15:58 commented on Tax Beast

Thanks! I was trying to keep the shading subdued, and it was created for a single panel of a comic, so I wasn't overly worried about making it perfect. Contrast seems to be something I'm constantly battling, though; most of the stuff I upload here will probably have shading that's too soft or too harsh.
