Eff it, I just don't need any more drama, I'll just take it down and be done with it. And I'll make sure to work on things for my next c64-pieces, to make sure that they don't create any doubts as to it's authenticity.

It IS pretty interesting that as far as I can see, the piece satisfies all the guidelines set in the upload part, yet this has been here for a week and a half without being approved. It really doesn't motivate me to put up anything new if it's up to the moderator to decide what is and is not appropriate for the community, instead of letting the community decide.

Yeah, I'm using photoshop, but no special brush settings. When doing c64 I usually start with a really crude sketch done in black and white or grayscale, just to get the basic idea down. Then I start using my wacom tablet to get some real detail in there. Then I go over the thing again, starting with a 3*3 pencil brush and going down to a 1*1 to add sufficient detail. I also use project one at times, to make sure that I'm not having too many colors in any of the 8*8 grids.

This is excellent stuff Carrion, love it! Was there a lot of bankswitching involved when scrolling?

The shape of the head is a bit off, seems like he's missing a lot of forehead. It seems compressed. And the highlight on the lower part of the cheek gives the impression of an outward bulge in the middle of it. It's a nice concept, just a bit unfinished.

I was working on them, and then I removed them to rework, and felt that leaving them like that added a creepy sense to the whole picture. So I left them like that.

I really like it, cute and well put together, but since the hair is basically static, the moving eyes seem a bit confusing to me. Feels like they are moving "inside" her head :)

I like it, allthough it seems like the roof of the house is in another perspective than the rest of the scene.

No, this is drazlace, which means that it basically interlaces two different images, creating the illusion of a higher resolution. No real references, used a moodboard, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4102466/moodboard.png and watched a lot of Victoria's Secret shows :) Working stages are over here; http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4102466/working_stages.png and yes, the hair was redone two times, mostly because I felt that it didn't feel right, but I needed to get it done for the party, it looks quite allright on the real thing :)

Saw this at the compo, definitely gets a RULES! from me ;) It's great to see some pixelart in the graphics compos, feels like it's been turned into something quite different the last few years.

What rayona said, it looks awesome, I just think a bit more perspective would make it even more awesome :)

Have you tried doing this kick in real life, just as you have animated it? I think you'll find that it's a bit cumbersome, especially the part where he has his feet together before he kicks. And there's something about the foot that disturbs me, a kick with this kind of force would probably try to hit with the heel, rather than the tip of the toe. So you might want to put some more emphasis into that, you might even want to remove the "toeflip" he does at the end.

Heh, the difference between the extreme graphics compo and the regular one, is that the entries in the extreme compo need to eighter be executable files (no larger than 4k for new machines, and 46(?) for the oldschool ones), or they need to be able to be shown on the old hardware, a 486 I believe. Maximum resolution ought to be 320*240, 16 colors.

This is a bit of a problem, mostly because it pits very different pieces against each other, and makes it incredibly hard to judge. Oh, and about the jury, it's basically comprised by all the attendants at the party, so most people there aren't demosceners. :)

Thanks for all the kind words :) I've just recently started working with the C64, and it's pretty tough, at least compared to other forms of pixelart, the pallette is rather tricky. Hope to start something new really soon though, just to make sure I keep practicing it :)

user
havocplague @ 5/8/2009 16:33 commented on Gameboy Advance SP

Actually, even concidering the perspective, the sound output is pretty much spot on like it is right now :) And yes, there are a lot of details missing on this one, such as the writing and the gameslot, but those are details that I will leave until revision two ;) Thanks for the feedback and the comments guys, appreciate it!

This is a great piece, it seems so .. fluid :) I've been following the Mecha Fetus blog for a while now, and I just love all this stuff. Oh, and by the way, THANK YOU for The Magic Touch, that was 3 minutes of absolute joy for me.
