This week you're challenged to create the front packaging for a new breakfast cereal called "Pixel Crunch".
Make sure you're not using any existing fonts.
Canvas Size - Exactly 100 (width) x 150 (height)
Colours - Max 48.
Transparency - No.
Animation - No.
A shame you cannot pixel the very original Porn Flakes for the challenge. I'd love to see hundreds of those...
I don't think it's very limited like so many say - you can stick pretty much anything your imagination wants at any angle and size on a cereal box + 48 colors go a long way. Dictating the name "Pixel Crunch" means it will be interesting to see who comes up with the most impactful fonts.
Its the weekly challenge, not the weekly vague art theme.
Improved my pixeling-skills after a few months, gonna participate in this one ^^
remember that you're dealing with a art form wich is somehow linked to limitations. rather than complain why a challenge limits your posibilities, ask yourself how you can have the most from such a reduced space. after all, you all are trying to get the most for such a small and reduced surface as a pixel itself.
I agree with last comment. The name opaques the originality a lot.
To be honest, forcing the name "pixel crunch" seems more like an impediment than a challengeing limit. I mean, I have trouble imagining that name adding much to anyone's entry; it's very general, and it seems to prevent someone from branching out into something more interesting and 'specific' without the name clashing. I like the challenge a lot aside from that, but with the name as it is I can't think of anything particularily interesting to do without it seeming completely unrelated to the name. I dunno if anyone else feels this way, it's just my gut reaction.
I imagine something like a box of ravioles.
Sure that the first idea for everybody was square shaped cereals. :B
I like the challenges that have a bit more originality as well, but I'm going to give this one a go. Fortified with 8 vitamins with iron.
@xdeath. not like have done anything outstanding with less crappy conditions, anyway.
I agree with vampireslug, Much like the last comp I'm really enjoying these more original themes hopefully I'll get around to entering it this time.
Wow, pretty harsh comments. This is no less a challenge than any other, IMO. Anyone could create a cereal box without limitations, this is like what I imagine working at a professional Ad agency would be like: "Here's the name, come up with a design" just like with ANY product. I think it'll be a little tricky and sort of fun. Anyway, that's my take on it.
Must we pixel the front view of the package or can we pixel a scene where the package is visible?
I think it's the 1st one, but i'm asking just to be sure...
Thanks for putting a wonderful theory to a crappy challenge idea Lazer :)
I like the idea - it is actually challenge to make something which would hold up to standards of commercial package design. And there is enough place to turn it the way you wish - be it attempt at serious presentation of product or spoof of theme. After all, pixelart is all about working within limitations and taking them to your advantage.
I kinda agree with x-death....Sorry guys. Not a great challenge.
what a horrible challenge. something a little more open would have been nice. like creat any kind of cereal box. but no i'm not entering such a crap comp.
HEY! Somebody submitted a piece for the Joint project to this weekly challenge!!! Fix that.
