Hello there PJ community!
My name is Thomas and I'm a brand spankin new edition to this splendid site. As you may well have guessed, I'm a big fan of the ole' pixel art! My video game system of choice would have to be the NES and as such I'm a big fan of the really simple sprites and images. In this vein I have created, with the aid of my brother Daniel, a website that combines 2 of my loves in life! The art of Haiku and the art of the pixel.
The site is called Lo-Ku
The idea was to illustrate original Haiku with pixel art. Each line of the Haiku is illustrated with one 32X32 panel using only the basic NES color palette (none of the alpha variant colors) which comes out to 52 unique colors. The reason for this (outside of the fact that I happen to like the look of really "big" pixels) is that, just as one's words must be very carefully chosen for each line of a Haiku, so too must each pixel be carefully chosen to represent it!
The subject matter for Lo-Ku is all over the bored. Philosophical, silly, gross, depressing, absurd, pop-culture-y, and even sometimes offensive. I'll give the warning that if coworkers are able to be offended by pixellated nudity then certain strips could be considered NSFW. So if you have the time, feel free to wander on over to Lo-Ku and spend some time. My brother and I trade off each day and we occasionally have guest Lo-Ku submissions (hint hint) so there is a new strip every day of the week for right now! If you like it, feel free to sign up for the RSS feed. I really hope you enjoy it!
THOMAS DRINNEN
Clever idea, but most of the humor is way too juvenile.
I did like the sperm going to Neptune, mind you.
