Open Pixel Platformer is back!

Open Pixel Platformer, a game collaboration project hosted by Hapiel on the PJ forum first began in May 2013. Due to lack of time and technical difficulties the project stalled for a while but is back stronger than ever with Damian and Noburo joining in as Project Managers.

Over time, many pixel artists have contributed and created an amazing amount of quality assets. Now, with a new wiki hosted by, we are excited to see what the next chapter of the OPP Project has in store.

Lets make some art and give it away to the game developers community!

What is the OPP?
OPP is a collaboration created on open license (CC-BY 3.0) platform sprite and tileset package. To ensure consistency, all of the art assets have been created using Dawnbringer's DB32 palette and follows a style guide.

Generally, open licensed art has been consisted of lower quality “Programmer Art,” unfinished art and incomplete packages. So, 2 years ago, we set out to create an artist driven project to provide a complete, cohesive, quality art package. Many programmers have shown interest, which included the Frogatto Team providing their Anura Engine as a platform to build a game demo.

I (one of the frogatto guys) was really happy when Hapiel messaged me that these folks were starting this back up; this could really be a gold-mine for the indie game scene.  There are a scant few sets of really great "free-license" art out there (Dan Cook "danc" deserves a nod) but most of these are abandoned assets from dead project.

Interesting idea! I will send you a message today :)

This is really awesome! It's great that you guys are doing something like this. I've thought about starting something like this for game music, but never got around to it. Is that something you guys would be interested in adding to this project? I would be willing to help get a lot of that started just to help out developers who need royalty-free assets.
