Pixel Art Challenge: Fist Train

icon

This weeks challenge is inspired by a dialogue from Disco Elysium - you know, that game which has shown that modern cRPG can be as good as in the 90's .

Draw a scene which represents the phrase "Fist Train", however you imagine it. You have a totally free hand in choosing what it will be as long as it can clearly represent the idea, or as long as you provide an explanation, in the artwork description, why and how your artwork represents the theme of this challenge.

You have to use the Patina palette by MidoriMushrooms

Canvas Size - max 320x180.
Colours - max 8 (use the provided palette).
Transparency - no.
Animation - no.

The author of this challengge idea is Xmenekai

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

I've been loving a lot of the challenge ideas! There does seem to be a sweet spot between balancing the max resolution, color limitations, and then the subject. If the max resolution is larger, generally less restrictions are going to draw in more artists. Larger resolutions invite people to go all out in their efforts, but if we restrict them with something like a specific color palette I think it works against it.

Specific color palettes as a restriction makes a ton of sense if the commitment level to the challenge is smaller (small canvas size, but maybe hyper specific subject). I also think they are more beginner friendly and accessible. I've always felt allowing a range of commitment levels in general that varies with each challenge can really draw in more people. And that's defnitely something that I can tell everyone's been really conscious of especially recently (IE the snowflake challenge is a great example)

Regardless it does feel like people who want to really go all out on a high commitement weekly would benefit most from less limits and maybe more specific subject. I do feel (and maybe this is not actually the case) that in the really hot era here there were a lot of challenges with similar canvas size to this one or larger, but with 32 max colors. I can only speak for myself of course, but that recipe is usually what I'm waiting for to do another weekly.

Interesting observation. I had to check. 17 challenges this year and 6 had palette chosen (if we include snowflake with only one colour)

I think people respond well to interesting palettes. Is that a good or bad thing to you? What I have to do to make you join a challenge  If you have any cool ideas for interesting restrictions we do not use often please share!
