CHALLENGE: The Magenta Challenge

You are challenged this week to create something using at least 8 colours from this masochistic magenta palette:



Canvas Size - Max 128 x 128.
Colours - Min 8 of your colours must be selected from the magenta palette above. Any other colours you wish to add are entirely up to you. There is no maximum limit to the amount of colours you can use.
Transparency - Optional.
Animation - Optional.

CHALLENGE RULES

• Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
• Only new pixels allowed.
• Open to all members.
• Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

There was an anime happening near my home last saturday. So I thought I'd make a cosplayer with pink hair and all... But then I couldn't make any that looked good. One of the sketches looked really old so I thought I'd make a sketch of an old lady with pink/magenta hair/wig and pink/magenta lips.

What do you think? Should keep working on this or make traditional cosplayer?

It's funny, because I just starting working on a piece with those colors. It's like someone just went and read my mind. XD

I'm going to try and enter this. Here is my WIP so far.



My biggest problem with this is going to be that I have never been able to recreate the human face.

While playing around, I made this redux.
Of course, not for the challenge, but I want to show it anyway :), still quite much work to get this perfect!

Dr. Grammer, he looks kind of like Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.  Get rid of the butt, reshape the head a little and make him look a little nervous...lol

the nose.

as for the amount of colors, you should use less colors with more contrast between them. a better color ramp will mean a huge improvement in your understanding of shading, depth, and colors in general.

you removed some colors, now you have to put some harmony between the ones you have. polish the transition between those skin colors, the purples in the coat can be polished even more, use more contrast to define it

If I understood you right metaru I think I fixed it. I don't know if I'm willing to change it AlexW, if enough people said it looked wrong then I would reconsider. Thanks for the vote of confidence taquito! More comments are welcome!

In future, if you ever wonder about proportions, use this trick: go look at yourself in the mirror and hold a ruler or stick out at arm's length, mark one part's measurement with your thumb, then (still at arm's length - that's important, since you're actually measuring angular size, not linear, so you have to keep the ruler a constant distance from your eye!) move it to another part and compare.

If you do that with your head and shoulders, you'll find that you're about three heads wide across the shoulders - that is, your left and right shoulder are each about as wide as your head, and then your head is in the middle.

This guy looks like he's more like 5 head-widths across the shoulders, which makes him rather pin-headed indeed.

if you don't want to change it, I'd exaggerate it even more somehow... make him a bit more cone-headed or something. Make it a caricature and pretend you did it on purpose all along. That's a classic artist's trick. ;)

remember you can add more colors to your entry, don't just limit yourself to do a poorly gradient based palette.

This is what I submitted for this contests. I wanted to animate it but... zZ zZ zZ

Mine is, but Met could be talking about a number of entries. The pallet in the first place is somewhat gradient based.
