An unlucky diver is about to become a hiddeous, magenta coloured, squid's din-dins!
Made with an obscene amount of colours (39) and specifically with a horrificly awful magenta palette. First time I've really attempted mixing wildly different colours in with each other and for a first effort, it went okay. The piece came together more by sheer luck than anything else.
Admittedly I slimely used the minimum amount of colours required for the competition. Started it late in the week and finished only a little before time
I can't argue with the criticism of the diver. I did get awfully lazy and rushed by the end. I misjudged the competition and thought it finished a day earlier than it did. Midnight Sunday for me meant just after 11:59pm Saturday, not 11:59pm Sunday. I would've cleaned it up had I have known.
I'll probably go back and re-do this piece properly. I do like the background area, especially the reeds and stuff. I'd like to ditch all of those pink shades and replace them with far more suitable ones, for instance.
Now that's very nice! Very nice atmosphere. I don't like the diver's left hand, tho. The shape, the white highlight, I think it's considerably weaker than the rest of the piece.
Yeah, Jim. I was fast running out of time and the diver was the last thing I did, so I certainly got quite slack around him. The idea was that the squid was making it's own light, but I'm not sure how well I portrayed that. I could have probably recuded the colours, but it was those pesky time issues. I joined the competition too late to really get a good plan thought up.
I'm still finding my feet with this colour blending and I don't think I pulled it off. Next time I'll hopefully do a better job with it!
I like the use of magenta to really bring that squid into the foreground.
Something I don't understand is the lack of lighting that the diver has, Now I've really been studying this for like half an hour (Yes I'm that sad!) and my conclusion was that either the squid was blocking the light or it actually produced a light source of its own. I say that due to it actually having areas of self produced light that could not have come from the top left. Now 39 colours? 1 colour for a lighter desaturated orange colour? surely.
Amazing stuff! I really enjoy everythings shinyness, the bubbles, and the readability of the grass! Due to its dark head the squid is a bit hard to read in the beginning, but once that I saw it the magenta defines the rest! Great stuff!

Don't know what it is but looks beautiful under water.
Thanks, guys. I usually don't attempt pixel pieces like this, so I was well out of my comfort zone. I think I did a pretty lousy job in a lot of areas, but I had too little time to finish. I sleep during the deadline period. I'll have to attempt a load more of these types of pieces because at the moment I don't consider it up to scratch.
Came out nice indeed. Some of the selout going on is a bit ugs imo, but overall, very competent pixelling. palette could be a bit optised, but it's a moot point here.

that is the prettiest I have ever seen the color purple in my life!
