Sorry about that! I must've just posted it as a regular comment. Strange that the colours get split out like that. Must be a problem with the exporting on my program. Should be as easy as paintbucketing the patches with a small tolerance for colours. The graphics can probably take a crop from the top and bottom and from the right side if need be.
The Aquarius tileset is available here: http://www.gridsagegames.com/rexpaint/resources.html
Check this link to see what I mean with extra colours. There are very subtle variants of most colours that are very hard to pick out with the naked eye.
As far as the charset goes it does not matter, since on C64 you can do hires bitmap, which is 2 colours per 8x8 pixels. That mode is 320x200, so your image is 1 char too wide (8 pixels) and 2 too tall (16 pixels). The black border is OK, since the C64 has a substantial border which you can define the color for as well.

@ptoing Yeah, this was made using RexPaint so I have a feeling it's not going to truly match the charactersets or colours. Strange that the colours should increase though - do you mean that there are lots of colours that are similar but not the same?
In addition, this is using the Aquarius Home computer 8x8 tileset, not the default commodore64.
This is great. I love SOTC and I love the C64. If you want I can make a C64 executable file from this and if you also want upload it to the C64 Scene Database.
Edit: just checked, and the image is a bit too big, even without the black border it is 328x216 pixels, which is 8x16 pixels too big for C64 without doing bordersprite trickery.
You also have some close to identical duplicates of pretty much every colour.
Thanks Coddy! Yes, I'm really enjoying Aquarius - much more than my custom C64 font. The creators obviously invested a lot of time into making a font for making games with, as evidenced by the rocket ships and tiny figures.
The general sketch only took about an hour - but it was the textures and greebling that took another three or four.
I've been using the Aquarius font aswell, it's really nice! Awesome work here with the colours and expression of texture and different surface Polyducks!
@Crake @Aubanis thanks you guys! It's using the C64 palette, but it goes with a ramp through purples. I found a nice guide image online that really helped me out.
I'll have to look up the PS3 HD version. I'm really liking all the aesthetic of Team ICO. It's just something else entirely.
I picked up the PS3 HD versions last year, I think the PS3 HD version is the best ICO/SOTC experience! And of course The Last Guardian made quite an impression on me! That's why I made that Team ICO tribute! :) Yes, real classics only go up in selling price.
@Theoden thank you! I'm sure the PC emulation is much better than the PS2... anything to remove that muddy/blur filter! Gives me a headache!
Just fought the desert colossus last night. That was such a massive thrill.
@UltimoGames
I only picked up the game a week or two ago second hand - and even then it was sold like-new (both in condition and price)! I'm going to have to look at these C64 loading screens.
My technique for drawing is to sketch it out in simple squares, then go back and work on outlines and then to add shading and densities of unusual characters. I have a habit of adding my username in there too.
Every day one hour since its release in 2005? Interesting piece you got there! Makes me think of the C64 glitches where all the tiles were mixed up. C64 also had some trippy loading screens, made my child brain all fuzzy!
Excellent work. I love how you managed to give it that recognisable expression.
SOTC is one of my favorite games of all time. It was the sole reason I bought a PS2 back in the day.
My PS2's laser component is dead and beyond repair but I occasionally play this masterpiece with emulation on my PC. Good times.
If you wanna make a crop that fits into 320x200 and have me make a c64 executable and maybe put it up on CSDb, let me know :)
