C'mon! That's just too good! Love the colours and composition!
Brings to mind the masterpieces of Elk. It's so gorgeous.
Wow, thank youfor the kind words. And yes, it is an incredibly exciting fossil to find - the photos of the fossil look sublime.
(Also I fixed the thumbnail to be <10kb now)
Thank you for getting back to me. That's fascinating! It's not every day you get to learn something at the same time as appreciating pixel art
Looks crazy good, must have taken ages to make this...!
Thank you! Well I adjusted the colours slightly for the style of the piece - the real animal had more copper red rather than pink - but yes, they are the colours found in the fossil (scientists have found fossilised remnants of chemicals used to determine the pigment of the animal's skin)
800 x 800!? How long did this take you? The subtle water effects and fog in the distance ar especially well done. I don't know much about dinosaurs; is the pink / white colours of the Borealopelta the actual colours found in the fossil?
When I saw the first photos of the holotype I just couldn't believe it. Easily beating that juvenile Chasmosaurus found by Currie last year by a mile. To be honest I thought it was a cast of some sort.
Most people don't understand that we extremely rarely find three dimensional fossils, most bones are flattened doing fossilization. A fossil this well preserved and with colour information is basically unheard of! The holy grail if you will.
Absolutetly no complaints from both a pixel and palaeontologic perspective! Must be one of my favourite pieces ever! It's aboslutely epic!
btw. Preview over 10kb! Argh.
This is really beautiful -- I'm blown away.
