Looks great, very reminiscent of old Helm stuff in a way, esp colours.
The waterfall looks cool but has some weird optical illusion of parts of it going upward.
It looks just gorgeous, especially waterfalls.
May I try to make a platformer level with these tiles?
@DrSlouch Good to hear - they took a while. The waterfall tiles were all done by hand, 8 frames.
The fans however were animated with a tween in Photoshop first, then taken into Pro Motion NG, recolored and cleaned up. I find creating smooth pixel art rotation by hand nearly impossible. Whenever I try, I always wish I'd just used a transform as a base so this time I went ahead and did that.
@Jinn Funny you say that, I referenced older Metroid tiles heavily while working on this tileset. Back in the NES days, Metroid 1 acheived such a unique weird vibe with its environments. I love the Metroid 1 tiles.
@Christoballs Cool, thanks - good to be back in pixel town. Got a bunch of stuff planned. We shall see . . .
@IllusionOfMana Thonk! I find it doesn't take much to up the immersiveness of your environments if you can convince yourself to take a little extra time and invest in a few decent animations to bring things to life.
You did a very good job making the fan and water animations very smooth.
I so want a Metroid game with this kind of detail <3
Amazing work, love the level of detail you went into the water and fan animations.

That's about the highest compliment you can give me, and simultaneously an insult to Helm haha.
Totally agree on the waterfall animation, the upward motion impression you get from parts of it is really weird and needs fixed.
