c64 HiRes restrictions. 2 colors out of the fixed 16 color palette for every 8x8 character. Like Eve before it, like Triangle Land after it.

This is amazing, i love the curves of the tree.

Really sets a nice mood, and the Sierpinski Triangle haze is a great touch :)

ptoing (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 2/11/2007 23:09
Bahahaha, that must have been the best dream ever!

Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 10/6/2006 09:06
Hah, wonderful.

government.agent (Level 1 Rookie) @ 10/6/2006 08:50
Purple is the color of dreams, and tastes like grape. After staring at this piece for a while and falling asleep, I dreamt of my commodore sixty-four only the monitor had been replaced with a large purple grape. It still worked, but it was strange looking at the screen as it wrapped around in spherical fashion.

The grape was a bit smaller than the original monitor. I loaded Bruce Lee and had to keep turning the grape when I got halfway across the screen...

Thanks for that.

The tree is brilliant and the mood you've created is excellent.

daporta (Level 7 Colonel) @ 8/18/2006 17:03

Tremulant (Level 1 Gangster) @ 8/15/2006 16:48

Cool stuff, Helm. I've got to admit, while I really respect c64 works on a technical level, I usually find them visually unappealing. The palette just doesn't do it for me. This, though, I really like, on both levels, so once again you've expanded my view of the world.. or something. Kind of makes me want to give the whole thing a whirl...

InvaderLupus (Level 1 Intern) @ 8/14/2006 12:51
this is probably my favorite c64 piece. I love how you expertly used these colors to create a dark and gloomy mood

Huggkruka (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/12/2006 04:32
Cool. You've got some real nice effects on that tree.

Helm (Level 5 Detective) @ 8/10/2006 06:00
Depends what mode you're drawing in, what you're drawing, how fast you are. Definately faster than real media of course. This was an easy piece, I think it was something like 3 hours. Others can take 5-10 or more.

SILVER (Level 1 Rookie) @ 8/10/2006 05:50
how long does c64 usually take to finish?
real good stuff as always helm!

buloght (Level 6 Centaur) @ 8/10/2006 03:04
Awesome scene, Helm.I love the girl and the distance trees.

d-p (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 8/9/2006 17:34
Nice how you create this mystical scenes with such hard restrictions. It reminds me of Another world as well.

maloART (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 8/9/2006 12:09

What I really appreciate on your composition, Helm, is the suggestive part of it. That is artistically brilliant. What enforces the pleasure is the technical constraints you added!

milkyjon (Level 4 Murderer) @ 8/9/2006 10:27
this reminds me of one of my most fav games ever, another world on the  amiga. Real moody with the siloette on purples. like it.

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) @ 8/9/2006 10:14
Chunk Funk hibrid? The mood is awsome, I really think you were able to transmit something to the viewers

Evil-Ville (Level 1 Thug) @ 8/9/2006 09:51
The hires mode has regular pixels as far as I know.

Looks great.

ryumaru (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 8/9/2006 09:45

what has happened to double wide pixels?

either way, i like it.

pmprog (Level 4 Murderer) @ 8/9/2006 08:55
