I wanted to do this for the 2-Framer challenge, then for the C4 challenge, and I had actually started sketching from some refs but never started pixelling. Done.

I would have liked to make it fit both challenges, it was long enough as it is. Widepixels = slooow ;_;

I'm not that happy with it, it's not really the image I had in mind.

Pepto's palette; I prefer ptoing's but this piece needed the darker tones.

WIP here. Most of it is ptoing's palette, the change comes in the latest stages. The early work doesn't bother with widepixels; when the drawing is satisfying a double resize (half width then double again, nearest-neighbor) makes a first widepx version which is then hand-adjusted locally (by far the longest part of the whole job). Another double resize is done at the end to check for / remove errors (about 10 misplaced pixels allover, not that bad!).

References: my own pics (top row), vintage postcards collection (2 next rows) and the web (2 bottom rows). I used them to sketch, copying them to get the idea, then trying to make my own. The final image still owes a lot to the top left photo.
