Based on a dream I had recently which involved swiming zombies and a giant shark, probably the result of too much chocolate and playing on Dead Island :)

[Edit] Added the missing wake / bow wave at the front of the boat, thanks to ptoing for spotting it. :)

[Edit] Improved the palette.

 Cool !

hannahjap (Level 2 Dealer) @ 7/21/2012 15:06

God that's gorgeous. I mean, awfully creepy, but in the best way. ;)

TheoVision (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 7/21/2012 13:18

I can't wait till you've played FarCry3 and start dreaming (and pixeling afterward...)

CeD (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/20/2012 08:13

Magnifique !

hnt6581 (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 7/19/2012 23:38

Oh wow this is great! Great dithering.

piiichan (Level 5 Detective) @ 7/19/2012 16:16

Love the palette and the idea!

But you should put the shark more behind the island, to make it clear it's a giant one. I didn't notice before I read the comments.

torguen (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 7/19/2012 11:06

 16 colors, omg!.

Dai (Level 2 Kukyu) @ 7/19/2012 07:48

Wow, this is really impressive, I can't believe it's only 16 colors! Nice work!

GameBoy (Level 1 Depressed) @ 7/19/2012 02:53

You have swimming shark and swimming zombies, but where's SWIMMING ZOMBIE-SHARK? :(

BTW you managed to make best dithering I ever seen.

CaptainLuksy (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/18/2012 15:51

I like how the sunlight goes through the water

imCharles (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/18/2012 14:37

 those clouds.... magnifique

Everet (Level 1 Gangster) @ 7/17/2012 20:04

Great work, especially like the cloud and waves.

EdJr (Level 9 Nidan) @ 7/17/2012 11:33

Oops, sorry if my comment was like "taking away" (I don't know if this expression is ok) your merit! A place in the top 10 would be very well deserved!

ptoing (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 7/17/2012 09:37

Actually having been on small motorised boats in the subtropics helps a lot to not forget such things :D

ThePixelKnight (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/17/2012 09:35

@ptoing Something was niggling me about that boat now I know why, thanks. :)

ThePixelKnight (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/17/2012 09:33

@iLKe Thanks! :D Yes I'm dithering maniac :). and as for the refs I don't know why I didn't put them in the description I didn't evern bookmark them 9.9 (thankfuly they where easy to find.)

ptoing (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 7/17/2012 09:17

This is really nice, tho there should be some wake at the front of the boat.

iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 7/17/2012 04:55

Ahh quite refreshing to see such a piece. Very good use of 16 colours and yeah it's a bit of a ditherfest but I don't mind that at all, bring on the old school!

Using references is not a shame, especially if the result is as nice as this. I'd just put the refs in the description.

8/8 and FAV!

EdJr (Level 9 Nidan) @ 7/16/2012 18:35

No direct refs? Because everything, especially the shark, is superb!

reis (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 7/16/2012 12:14

 Good job and idea!

elend (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 7/16/2012 10:09

Haha wow, what a mash up. I really like the color palette you used, as well as the checkerboard dithering. :D

marple (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 7/15/2012 21:30

Very good

solrac (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 7/15/2012 18:17

Have you watched Lucio Fulci's "Zombie"? In this film there is a scene in which a zombie fights a shark in the sea. Your picture remind me of that.

LachieD (Level 1 Depressed) @ 7/15/2012 12:04

 Amazing! :D

ThePixelKnight (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/15/2012 10:42

Thanks Merez! :) With this piece I restricted myself to 16 colours hence the large amount of dithering otherwise there would have been less of that dreaded dithering. ;)

Hmm maybe I'll do a version with 256 colours

Merez (Level 6 Hitman) @ 7/15/2012 10:11

 Very good stuff this job!

Just think you should do the job a little cleaner, make layers of colors before dithering, including the rays of the water.
But it was amazing, congratulations.

ThePixelKnight (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/15/2012 07:49

@ a3um: I've toned down the skin colours of the zombies and made the edge of the water a little sharper. But using the darker colour for under the water is a little too dark for my liking, so I kept the original blue and drithered in some of the green at the bottom although I think it could do with a bit more. I added some shafts of light in the water to brake up the soild blue and some more zombies, what do you think?

Aastikya (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 7/15/2012 05:42

Really really awesome!

DawnBringer (Level 10 Pixel artist) @ 7/15/2012 05:10

Fun picture, and that boat is pretty slick!

a3um (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 7/14/2012 21:19

All the stuff on the surface is awesome!

As for underwater, I'd make something like this. I tried to get rid of all the warm colors like skintones, (blood?) and such. I made the edge of the surface more sharp and changed the underwater colour.

AdamF (Level 11 CEO) @ 7/14/2012 20:45

great stuff! my only criticism would be the excess dithering in the water-- it does little to help achieve a watery effect. love the shark, though, probably the best pixel rendition of one yet!

Sublyme (Level 4 Murderer) @ 7/14/2012 20:04

great piece, loving the giant shark

Losm (Level 7 Mass Murderer) @ 7/14/2012 19:59

A dream about a giant shark, bigger than a small, Castaway-sized island and zombies that can swim, both attempting to eat you? Sounds awesome. O_o

Ha. Really cool piece, though. ^_^

Shanx (Level 1 Depressed) @ 7/14/2012 18:47

Really cool

Frost (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 7/14/2012 18:38

This, also, reminds me of Atari ST graphics. Might be the palette in combination with the dithering.

sodium (Level 1 Thug) @ 7/14/2012 18:19

Great dithering, really good idea for a picture.

surt (Level 11 Godfather) @ 7/14/2012 16:58

So shark is proper giant and behind the island? Took me a few moments to realise that.

The description makes me hungry. Mmm, chocolate-coated zombie segments.

Rayovatron (Level 6 SWAT) @ 7/14/2012 16:53

|||| (Level 9 Orchid) @ 7/14/2012 13:57

Wow! That's so awesome. Action packed.

The colors on the boat are neat.
