I've been playing this game on my commute into London and these backgrounds are incredible! The banding really doesn't seem to be an issue to me- especially as there is lighting added in post in-game. Stellar work
Thanks. Yeah this one is from the DS version, which was on the DSi store.
There is also a Director's Cut which is on PS4, Wii U and Windows.
Ok. :) Just lurking in the galery - didn't read descriptions - apologies.
Even better. I remember this game from GBC - it was reference for game I was working on GBA (ages ago). Later I saw one of this kind on gba - but this seems to be DS version?
splendid work anyway - I really like design and execution.
Thanks. These are not mockups though. They are actual game assets used in Shantae: Risky's Revenge.
Great bgs! I liked the first one most because of the wood texture
Thanks everyone :)
Zizka: My stuff does not look professional because I do jobs like this. I get jobs like this because my stuff looks professional ;)
I love when the backgrounds have just as much character as the characters themselves. Well done!
One is an edit of the shed and the other one is not nearly as interesting as the rest. If you wanna see them, buy the game :P
Love the whale skeleton. Remind me that sweet Tales of ?? TBS from TGL around 1999.
I love these a lot, especially the top ones. I believe good color use covers small errors.
I love the pic on the top left, very good work - its just perfect for a adventure game!
DB: Yeah I agree about the banding. If I would redo these I would change quite a few things. I just checked, they are from late 2009, over 3 years old. And done with a deadline, so yeah, stuff like this happens, I guess.
Good looking stuff, the banding on the cannons is a bit glaring though.
Tee Hee!
Glad to see you sharing these, love your work on the game.
skeddles: Henk worked on this as well and did most of the actual level graphics.
Excellent designs. They seem so simply designed, yet they look so much more than they are. That's a real skill right there. Is it down to just having the right palette?
It's a bit older than 2013, can't remember when exactly, 2010 or '11, I think. But yeah, There are still some companies who like to get proper pixelwork done.
So smooth....This doesn't even look like pixel art :O Awesome work sir!
Top notch work. Makes me happy to see that this sort of work is still being made in 2013.
Reminds me classic icon advanture game backgrounds of the 90s. Good times.
Thanks everyone.
Hapiel: I am working professionally as a pixelartist since 2005. Since 2008 as a freelancer. Before that I was working at 2 different places in England.
Gorgeous. I need a 3DS/DSi to play this. Loving the colors!
the first is the best. excellent lights excellent colours. nice work ;)
