Surt - I think I see your point but this was actually done from a black and white photo so no colour reduction involved.
Mrmo tarius - thank you, I'm not too fussed on the base either I tried removing it but the thing looked like he was about to topple over....Totally agree re the base dithering but decided I couldn't face spending anymore time on it.
Mandrill - many thanks indeed, glad you like it. Really appreciate your edit and advice and if I can ever face doing another Warhammer critter I will definitely take them on board (I knew I should never have picked up that White Dwarf magazine!)
Thanks Almir, I needed Google translate but I think I got your meaning.
How is this any more worthy than a straight-up colour reduction (if it isn't)?
Really the only thing I don't like here is the pedestal and its dihtering :) The rest is very nice.
Maybe, with a bit of palette management, you should be able to both whip up some more greenish tones AND reduce the overall colour count :)
Good work tho!
Flippin' hell man you really nailed this Forgeworld Venerable! The Dark Angels would be proud. :)
Your best piece yet and one of the best pixel dreads I've ever seen. I like how you used the dithering and all those colours to get a real smooth transition in the midtones. The banners look pretty cool as well.
Like r1k said darker blues would make it pop a little more and a warmer highlight could help as well. I did a bit of colour tweaking. Hope you don't mind :)
Here is a animation to show the difference.
You could even add some bounce light to make him look more realistic and rim light to support the dramatic gesture.
Awesome work and keep those Warhammer machines coming mate, because Warhammer is bloody brilliant!
Awesome.
Thanks r1k, that's excellent advice. I was wondering whether to go for a darker blue and your edit certainly shows that I should have. I suppose I could argue that I was going for the look of a painted plastic model rather than something metallic but even so your edits definitely improve the things.
very good. I see you used the Atari colors, but just to note, I think you could really make it pop with a little more contrast and hue shifting. Namely, I think the darkest blue should be darkened. Because with how it is now it makes it look a little soft, and less metalic. Quick edit:
Wow. I quite like warhammer and that looks like a great rendition of a Dreadnaught. Great job, in my oppinion!
