The color mix of the palette is incredible (love the tree).
a rewarding picture that just keeps on giving, those clouds !!
I'm enjoying the choice of colors you used for this, such as the purple color for the shading and shadows.
I love it.. but does dat cloud part have dick reference?
Awesome :o i like clouds, mountains and the house, but mhm the grass maybe it's messy (newbie crits, you can ignore xD)
The textures! The contrast! Goddamnit, Helm, this is really enjoyable to look at! I don't understand how you are able to do this...
Hmmm, the image is precisely the right width to fill two dual 1920px monitors once blown up to 300%, whatever shall I do with this . . . hmmmmm
Hah, that's true. The colours are quite Van Gogh actually.
Very nice, Helm. Reminds me of Van Gogh a little bit, and that's a compliment.
That palette is lovely. The pale green land in the far back is especially nice.
reminds me of a wine-growsery in france or something, plantation :) love the right hut especially aswell as the tree
Damn yo, tons of great stuff to look at, love that tree, the mountain, the layer right before the mountains the wood on those houses.
Dang helm! awesome. My first thought was definitely about the purple, but dang dude you got some really rich colors to work quite well.
Is there a game out there with these graphics in it? Because I would very much like to play that game.
I really really love this, the colors are amazing, as many have pointed out. My one critique would be the barrels that are just sort of slapped in there, in the full image the two in the grass appear to just be floating there. I would reccomend giving them a shadow or something so they look mroe grounded. Really wonderful work though, I am in awe of those hills.
Really great, I don't add favorites very often, but this is definitely worth a spot in my collection. Some nitpicks here and there (e. g. same looking clouds with harsh cropping), but I'm totaly fine with that since it's a game asset.
Manupix, btw, the left house is 1point perspective because it's a modular tileset that can build more farmhouses. The one on the right is a stamp because it's unique.
This isn't the space to go into too much detail but since a few people are asking about color selection, look at this

I spend *a lot of time* after I've made some initial hue choices in photoshop, messing with 'color balance' making really minute changes to every color for every channel, seeing if something looks a bit better with more cyan, more purple, whatever.
The reason I do this is because I've trained myself badly for 10 years with too much grey, so I ended up with a lot of very muddy pictures. When you add color via color balance, it will tint every grey in the direction you added the color towards. So it's an efficient way for me to reign in all the fanciful hue shift reflexes I have by pulling the whole thing in one direction.
In addition, if you're enjoying the summer feel of the picture, that's also the result of color balance, in that when you add certain bright colors to an already bright image you get to very carefully overexpose it, it has something of a 'bloom' feel to it. I've done this many times since, but not on artwork I've gotten to show off.
So although I can't tell you how to pick colors, I will tell you that messing with overall color balance is a big part of my process.
Thanks for the kind words, everybody.
dpixel, I agree that purple is too fanciful for the piece, but this is old, I'd rather not retouch it.
BTW, click on the image to see the whole thing
Really like the intermediate background(right before the mountains). The purple shadow seems a bit too purple, but still works. Very nice.
Argh, this makes the wait for summer even harder!
A brilliant display of your legendary skill. Perfect, except from that what |||| said about those barrels.
I want to live there
Nitpicks: the left side house 1-point perspective conflicts with the other house 2-pt persp; also floating barrels.
Great colors. Looks a bit like a van Gogh painting.
Also--This was a great time to have that new PJ addon that allows you to scroll to see the whole image.
Awesomeness...would love to see the full length image, that tree in the preview looks awesome too.
I don't understand how you know which colours to pick :(
This looks wonderful!
I really wish I could unveil the secrets behind your technique, or watch you doing something like this in real time.
Very beautiful.
Gorgeous. I'll never get tired of the way you throw hues around.
Damn that looks good! The tree's a thing of beauty.
Should not the two barrels have shadow too though?
The end assets for this set are about 3 times as long as this particular crop.
perfect!
