Bell pixel ads online

News Details

A while back I sent in a link to a story about rogers communication suing bell canada over their animated pixel cheetah and hare tv ad.  I just found an online gallery of those bell pixel ads with links to quicktime video versions that might interest the pixel-oriented.  I like the pixel style and some of these commercials are pretty funny too:

As far as I know Bell Canada is no longer showing these pixel ads on tv.

PB Edit: These ads were pixelled by the talented Trevor Van Meter
PB Edit #2: My bad... Trevor only work on a certain portion. See n.alien's comment below

Hey no problem, we're all human!  Really glad to hear you guys dig the spots, I've actually got the 'remaindeers' ad in the Ottawa animation festival tonight, and I've got several other commercials to go up on the site, some which never went to air - I'll hopefully get that done in the next couple weeks.  This is the first I've been to pixeljoint - its a great site with a good community you've got going on here, I'll keep checking in!  Thanks again for all the positive feedback!

didn't really mean ripped in that sense, more like rippind the design. but obviously i just live in a barrel and haven't realised before that the cat clock design is so old :)

sweet dude! Thanks for the corrections and filling us in on the talent pool. I gotta say those were my favourite ads in the past 5 years (not just because they were pixelled.. but it helps).

Hey! Thats my site!
I have to correct the submission though  - Trevor Van Meter is indeed a very talented fellow, but most of the design for these spots were done by the talented Toke Nygaard at Cuban Council. Toke subcontracted some work out to the talented Trevor Van Meter and the talented Vicki Wong at Meomi - the rest of the design and animation was done at Global Mechanic.  where we had many talented designers and animators working on this campaign.. A LOT of people worked on these ads,  I'm sure I've forgotten some of them, but I'll try to get full credits updated on the site soon!

Trevor did a bunch of print and web ads for the bell campaign, he has those on his site, but I havent actually posted the tv spot that he did the design for yet - unfortunately the spot was unfinished when Bell ended the pixel campaign.

Oh.. And the cat clock is drawn from scratch and definately not a rip.. you cant shift from isometric to flat pixel art without redrawing right?  Just do a google image search for 'cat clock' and you'll see where we got the image reference.

I'm very glad to hear that people have enjoyed them - I have more to post soon, I'm just in the process of trying to get the site all up to date.  Thanks for visiting, please come again!

Those ads rock, but i actually found a ripped clock in one of them. Check this one out http://afterfx.net/video/turkey-walnuts the cat clock on the wall is almost identical to this one made by Exavior http://exavior.com/catclock.gif
