Pixel Art Challenge: An Animated Avatar

This week you are to create an animated avatar. The subject matter can be anything you want.

Canvas Size - Exactly 64 x 64.
Colours - Unrestricted.
Transparency - No.
Animation - Required. At least 16 frames; each frame must be unique. The animation should loop seamlessly.

Note: If you don't have an animation program you can draw every loose frame in any graphics program, save them, and create the animation with iaza or download unFREEz.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

@Jeremy: I have to agree :P

skamocore (Level 11 Dolphin) @ 7/21/2009 22:52

No. Only stuff created after the challenge announcement.

Unless of course by 'older' you mean something you created in the last 2 days...

skeddles (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 7/21/2009 22:46

I don't suppose I can animated an older icon?

alkaline (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 7/21/2009 16:05

maybe i'll finally enter one of these challenge thingies

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 7/21/2009 12:09

not to mention that, unless i missed something and PJ now allows .APNG file formats, you cant use partial alpha channels in .GIF animations.

susuwataris (Level 6 Yonkyu) @ 7/21/2009 11:17

of course you can do that MFlanga, simulating transparency is not the same that actually having transparency.

MFlanaga (Level 4 Ensign) @ 7/21/2009 09:06

But couldn't you place pixels to create the illusion of semi-transparency? Such as to emulate the effects of smoke, glass, or water??

jeremy (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 7/20/2009 21:26

No pixels should be semi-transparent in any pixel art o_O

plyvinyl (Level 2 Quiet One) @ 7/20/2009 21:24

no transparancy does that mean all pix must have full alpha? can some pix be 50% transparency?

Peeter (Level 4 Button Man) @ 7/20/2009 16:53

I think I'll enter this one, but at the moment, I have no idea at all what to make.

skamocore (Level 11 Dolphin) @ 7/20/2009 14:19

All frames need to be unique.

Blackbeltdude (Level 7 Ichikyu) @ 7/20/2009 11:00

I got a question... do at least 16 frames need to be unique, or if you did a 20 frame animation, would all of those need to be unique too?

Kudohazama (Level 5 Rokkyu) @ 7/20/2009 09:34

sounds like a nice challenge.

skamocore (Level 11 Dolphin) @ 7/20/2009 04:50

It just means that the content of each of frame must exist only once; no two frames can be the same, that's all. You can copy and paste stuff/slide part of a frame around/whatever, but it's obviously preferable that you put more effort into your animation than just moving bits and pieces around.

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 7/20/2009 03:27

Could we expand abit more on the "each frame must be unique". does that mean that a frame cant be repeated 16 times or that something such as copy/paste and/or sligthy modify each frame to get an animation (IE: slide a part of the frame)?

skamocore (Level 11 Dolphin) @ 7/20/2009 02:38

ok challenge description updated.

Damian (Level 10 Operative) @ 7/20/2009 02:25

Niether do I, I would make each frame separatly and then combine them with some program on the internet. I'm sure there's something that can do that? Doesn't bother me much though.

heyy13 (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 7/20/2009 02:14

Well count me out, i don't have an animation program. But i anticipate some awsome entries! : )
