sick, I haven't done a competition in a long time, but this has me excited. And the fact that I am currently playing Earthbound helps too.

In all examples shown, the angle of oblique lines is 45°, but the wikipedia definition allows for any angle.
What is the official rule here?

Here is what I've done so far. As you can see sprite and dialog box are in progress.

Seems more like a guy standing with his legs apart than oblique... I think you'll need to provide more indication that this mock up is actually oblique, and like I said, the only thing that resembles oblique is the guy's stance and even that doesn't look in perspective. Remember we should be looking at this guy as if he is stright on to the camera - in a similar way to a single plane from an orthographic projection + depth added diagonally. Of course this image *could* very well be oblique (every image could perhaps be in any perspective you want), but I think you should make it clear that it is indeed in oblique perspective. I'll give an example: This is an isometric image, however the perspective is not clear from just the preview image. It requires further context (most obviously from the castle) to show how the boat from the preview fits within the context of an isometric scene. In a similar way, I think you should try making it clearer that your mock-up is in oblique perspective. It doesn't have to be explicitly boxy like the iLKke example, but the characteristic oblique angles should be present at least to a degree.

This seems like an interesting chalenge, so i'm giving it a try.
This is the basic block to build my levels with.
The game itself will be a 2.5D maze. Go from one end of the level to the other. There are no enemies, but you can fall off cliffs or get to a place of no return.
