Yeah people can do some amazing things with their colors... I can't help you at all there lol, but good luck with the redesign project! Mockups or an actual game?

Same on not having 3d glasses.

I like the glitter effect when you scroll. There's an artist, Adam Ferris, who kinda specializes in that sorta thing.

Looks really good, got my vote. You did a nice job of having separate color schemes for the skin/mucous while still bringing them together with the eye and toenails as kind of a middle ground. The palette is really good, but it's also pretty desaturated, so I'd be interested in seeing you work with a more vibrant color scheme in the future.

I love that the dove looks like a guitarist.

I kinda see what they're saying with the legs, you got a bit of butt cheek on the (viewer's) right so it makes sense, but the left is thinner and less 'grimy' with regards to shading (which isn't a bad thing! I love that style, it's just the two don't quite match).

Still it's really beautiful. Love your texture work esp. on the feathers.

Really like the idea and execution of the hands, not sure if it's hair, a cloak, or both, but it rocks.

Man really good work, especially like the third guy with the missing patch of hair.

If it's going to be used in a game or something, I feel like the first two might be too similar to be easily distinguished - considering the difference in the jawline, maybe if their hairlines followed, so the second with the narrow jaw had the wide hair and the first with the wide jaw had straight hair, their lines would be a little more distinct. Of course, that first guy does have that whole burly soldier look, which it could totally ruin! Just my 2c, and like I said the shading and general lines are v. nice.

Such a cool glitch preview though, why'd you go and make it all pretty?

I think the dark color works if you're going for an old school CRT vibe or whatever. It's just the right amount of eyestrain. Looks good.

This is pretty good, I like your palette a lot - only big issue is that the guy on the left dosn't loop and that really throws me (for a loop). Definitely good for being out of the game though!

I really like this style; I'm making a game with a similar look (but far less artistically polished), so this is great inspiration too. Also, nice touch having the snake go over the board.

One comment about the direction input; I think most people more strongly associate right with up, at least in English, probably something to do with reading left to right. Also, most games will progress left to right and bottom to top, so there's that association of up and right are forewards, while right and down are backwards.

Anyways, the point is I think, if you made a game with this perspective, it'd be better if the directions were basically vertically mirrored; so when you press up, you went a little bit to the right instead of a little to the left. Just my non scientific opinion tho, and it doesn't retract from the excellent artwork at all.

Personally, I like the alternate palette better, but they're both kickass.

This is really good.

I think you could improve the palette to favor contrast and readability, but the details are v. impressive.

Very nice! I really like the spiral transition on the SotC one, and the way you make the tower wobble on the right (only played SotC).

One critique, the movement of the Colussos doesn't really convey the size/weight they have. At the start, when his eyes are following the runner, it's better - but then he swings the club with almost no buildup or acceleration. Doesn't really make sense for something that heavy. Adding some frames at the beginning and end of the motion with very little movement would help.

Still, it's very good despite that.

Any feelings on what makes a good theme? For instance, despite the clever entries, the Misty challenge provided zero motivation for me.

"We like 10k previews...its like the old days"

Think this is the truth of the matter. Sure the front page should be clean and fast, but it's true that most (the vast majority) have the connection for much more. Of course, it's a pixel art site, it's automatically a little nostalgic out of the gate.

I like this one quite a bit. You need to work on being more consistent/smooth in your lines and colorings, and the brain looks more like a heart, and I'm not really sure what the tendrils are but they look cool. Overall it's an interesting concept with nice color tones/shading. Good work.

I didn't catch the Aliens reference myself, but I approve. You definitely have the most style among all the entries. I like how you used varying tile sizes. The y-intersection in particular looks really good. It doesn't seem like the best mock-up though, as those tiles would be a bitch to keep still irl and there's no UI to play it on a device. Still got my vote.

7heSama @ 12/8/2014 16:55 commented on Battle of North [Weekly Challenge]

Maybe I'm dense, but it took me a second to get the christmas theme - which I like, it has it's own style beyond that.

The portraits look great obv (can't tell who P1 is supposed to be though - enlighten me?). Tiles and UI also look very solid. Especially, the UI looks like it could actually be used for a game, which is a big part of why you got my vote. I don't really like the decision to make the units mono-colored, doesn't look good along side the detail in everything else. I think the color palette in general could use some work too - at parts the contrast is crazy high (white on red/green), and other parts are really bland (the flat gray background).

Overall a really solid piece, like I said, it's got my vote.

Tiles look really nice. I like the dark edges, helps define things.

Biggest problem I have is that the UI and playing area have the same background color, making them very hard to distinguish. Between this and the general layout of the UI, it's more confusing than useful.

I just checked em out and my opinion is they don't look very good there either. It just doesn't mesh with the realistic faces. If it was consistent, I would like it more.
