In one-point perspective, lines that move toward or away from the camera all converge on the same point, assuming they are parallel.  In this case, this still isn't one-point perspective because the lines along the tops of the buildings do not recede towards the same point in the center of the image as the road.

That said, I actually like how it looks, and I think there's definite value in messing with perspective... it just doesn't meet the challenge guidelines!

It looks to me like this was resized at some point by a non-integer scaling factor?  I think the roughness the previous two comments are referring to are partly nearest-neighbor scaling artifacts.  If you still have the unscaled version, try updating this submission with that instead!

I think this is the first time I'm gonna participate in a challenge.  Let's see... fog... perfect excuse to doodle more zonky bubbly cloud effects I've come to love... I'm thinking about pink and blue...

I'm drawing 12x12 tiles and nobody can stop me

Oh yeah, that reminds me what my next small project was gonna be.  Doing a self-portrait avatar so I stop getting referred to as "he" @_@

I've been like super itching for a pixel art-themed IRC channel and I'd actually been meaning to ask around in here if there was one.  This chatbox is nice, but feels more like a free-for-all forum thread than a chat, y'know?  It's a shame that #pixeljoint and #pixelart are so empty...

president_skeleton @ 8/18/2014 11:11 commented on Big Bird

I don't know if antialiasing a huge scene is my favorite or least favorite part of pixeling.  It's just... relaxfuriating.

president_skeleton @ 8/18/2014 04:20 commented on Big Bird

This may end up being the longest I've ever worked on a pixel piece, if you include the dawdling, which is 90% of the time.

president_skeleton @ 8/17/2014 12:09 commented on Big Bird

Am I safe to climb in bed and just relax into a long night of antialiasing, or do I need to stay at my desk in case I need to use my tablet or get a stable mouse surface?  This question is the bane of my existence...

president_skeleton @ 8/17/2014 05:36 commented on Big Bird

@ADrawingMan It's less psychedelic than that hand, I think.  It's a bit of a sunsetty, autumny scene.  Still taking quite a few liberties as usual though.

@caca Kirby's Dream Land 3 is a pretty big art inspiration for me, but not quite!

president_skeleton @ 8/17/2014 05:20 commented on Big Bird

I swear to god, I'm trying to make a normal tree.  I really am.  Real life just isn't colored extravagantly enough.  Current working palette, for the curious??

president_skeleton @ 8/15/2014 22:23 commented on Big Bird

I've got something pretty good going, but I want to tinker with it and get super nitty-gritty with the details this time (all I can see in my last piece is the really inarticulate AA job >_<).  I just hope I have it done before tree week is over

president_skeleton @ 8/15/2014 11:54 commented on Big Bird

Alright!  I have my stylus back.  Trees are occurring.  I'm using some bonsai as refs...

president_skeleton @ 8/14/2014 16:36 commented on Big Bird

If everyone could kindly cease pixeling these incredible trees for a day or sixty while I clumsily piece together some god-awful garbage trees that would be greatly appreciated.

Also:  I'm pretty sure I'm tricking some people into thinking I have an alright color sense by mashing together rainbows

president_skeleton @ 8/14/2014 08:08 commented on Big Bird

These intensely rad trees on the showcase are giving me an itch to try pixeling some trees...

Good thing I left my tablet stylus on the other side of Antwerp @_@

This image has over 200 colors in it, likely because of those blurry black wires in the upper-left.  The AA on them looks decidedly NPA (Not Pixel Art), which is something you might want to watch out for.

That aside, this is very pretty!

Honestly I feel like this is one of those cases where low color count is responsible for making it kind of impossible to do what you want to do here.  I would increase the palette to 16 or even 24 colors if only to make the gradient in the background smoother.  The visual noise caused by the dithering is responsible for destroying a lot of the depth you're trying to create here.  Alternatively you could see how well it works with no dithering at all.

I like the palette and concept a lot, though!

president_skeleton @ 4/25/2014 06:22 commented on Big Bird

I actually roughed out the clouds in that piece I submitted last month in SAI with my tablet, specifically so that I could get pressure sensitivity on the brush size.  It was a huge help in getting some of the more bubbly, flowy aspects down quickly.  I also use the tablet when antialiasing sometimes.  I'm a lot more precise with it than my mouse.

As for non-pixeling uses, I do pretty much everything on my tablet.  It's a very big model (whatever the largest of the last generation of Intuos was), which I think helps a bit.  I do all my line art and sketching with it -- I haven't touched paper in quite a while.  It takes a lot of getting used to, but it's very natural to me now.  If I had bothered getting very good at drawing *before* I got it, I can imagine it would have been much, much more cumbersome to learn to use.

No particular reason!  The person I threw this together for thought it would look cool so I went with it.  I kind of like it too, but I'm not enormously into the CPC or C64 palettes so I didn't bother.

Okay, I have to ask -- why 25x25?  That's a reeeally unusual resolution for this sort of thing.  24x24 I could understand, but 25?

Whatever the resolution, it looks great at this size.

Somehow this image is over three hundred colors, even though it looks more like 32 or so to the naked eye.  That aside, while it's a bit rough around the edges, I love the coloring and the texturing.  Your art has a certain personality that I like!

It's weird how fun to stare at this is.  I like D6.

president_skeleton @ 4/5/2014 16:19 commented on "Bloom" Mockup

At this point in time it's more of a story than a game.  I've been tinkering with it for years, but so far I'm really not nearly talented enough at things like animating and stuff like that to ever create all the art assets for it single-handedly.  I'm considering doing it as a comic or even a visual novel, since it's very story-heavy.  At the moment though it mostly serves as a set of stock characters that are fun to draw, although none of them look much like they do in this old mockup anymore.

The texturing on the leaves really needs cleanup... but something really sits right with me about the composition as a whole.  The way this tree is shaped is just so pleasing to look at.  It definitely draws the eye all over the place, and I like it.

I've been drawing seriously for like two years now but sometimes I get the feeling that I've spent so long drawing girls that I've forgotten how to draw guys

Like seriously where do I put the boobs, they hide them well
