Did you use green red and blue to do some subpixle anti-aliasing?  If so that's pretty impressive, but I don't think it works on all screens. If not, it's still very good.

I dunno... I'm quite the Gorillaz fan and the only resemblance I see is in the jaw and lips. The Gorillaz don't really use a "graffiti" style and although some of the artwork looks simple at first glace there is an insane ammount of detail.

Furthermore there are some fundamental problems in the anatomy and although it is a cartoon, the art for the Gorillaz do follow the basics. For example, the face you drew is way to big compared to the whole head, causing the ear to be pushed up to the eye.

You should probably look up more references if you really want to capture the style and learn about basic proportions. The Demon Days' cover would be the best reference for a profile.

-Good luck!

Don't be lazy and keep on hiding the hands in your pictures. In cartooning hand position and gestures are very important for creating a character with personality and depth. For example, a single hand gesture with different positions relative only to the wrist can give very different effects.

I really hope that this is the product of your naivety. Big red lips, cannibalism, bone in the hair, raping the females? What the fuck?!

Very beautiful. The only thing that bugs me are the planet's rings. Maybe they are too simple, or just to much contrast between them and the background (they look too solid). Wait... Are they rings?

Why does this remind me of Mother 3?

I love these guys. I hope you'll post a mockup!

I like the eyes and the simple background but there are some problems I see. There are a couple of blinking stray pixels (above each eye) and the roughness of the lip looks like it could use some work. When I first saw this, I thought that there was a bat flying around in the background that suddenly pops but upon looking closer i see that it is a heart (right?).

I hope you can see what I mean and post an updated version. I really like your style and would like to see you improve!

Despite the size I can clearly see the details of the character. Good job!

I really like the hands and feet. Neat idea using the shading of the tie to create teeth and a tongue.

This reminds me of the game Heart of Darkness. It's really cool but as Rostii said the animation of the grey guy doesn't fit.

You don't really need dithering on a sprite this small; instead of adding shades it makes it look messy. I think two shades and some AA would really help along with darker, less saturated outlines. This should improve the clarity and give it more of an anime style.

-Good Luck!

I really like the contasting color choices but something is bothering me about the arms of the guy on the right. Maybe the head is too asymetrical or simply that he is sleeveless.

Her eyes must be really dry o.O

I suggest adding some still frames in between blinks so it looks more natural.

Thanks for the comments! I actually have been trying to develop a smooth and simple style to improve the clarity of small images.

Good job in improving your character! It's cool to see the evolution of him in your gallery. Just remember that readability is very important with sprites this size. Contrast and color selection are very important in achieving this but do not forget to have a strong silhouette and simplify the character design.

Keep it up!

I really like the design of the black blob guy but there are too many colors making it look blurry.  I think it would be more readable if you simply used black, white, one tone of grey, and a bright red.

I was thinking of showing the inertia of the ears and head when the hips dropped but also whether or not it would look a bit too busy with the exaggerated rotations. Walk cycles are tough .

Yeah, I tried making a couple of sprites for his project but he hadn't decided on a specific style.

Both 1x and 2x look good but I must say 2x makes the ship look more impressive.

6dof @ 6/10/2009 12:51 commented on isometric police station

The police car is my favorite part of the image, the shapes are well defined along with good colors. The building is also nice, but it seems like you can do some more like adding a stairway or making a more elaborate doorway. To me it seems a bit small for a two floor building in comparison to the car. Great shading btw.
