Great to get 3rd place. Not topping those sprites from llshadow though. Crikey.

congrats everybody

Yes, what I mean was in regards to the top 10, not as an encouragement meter. In which case, yes, it's always great and motivating seeing your piece come near or on the weekly showcase, which is definitely thanks to any amount of votes one recieves regardless of how many points. I vote every piece I see, though I judge it on what the artist should be capable of and how much effort was applied to their piece.

Giving one blue dot will drop the weighted total, and drag a piece down in the listing. It has a negative rather than neutral or positive effect on the piece.

"sub par work getting just a point per vote doesn't really matter."

Doesn't matter to the Top10 list. I am sure it matters to those who make sup-par work meaning they are still improving their skills and improving their work. A vote of any kind is encouragement and motivating and we all should always vote, rate and comment so eventually everyone is on the monthly list.

Delicious (Level 9 Boss) @ 1/19/2012 18:06

Well, yea, but it never really makes a difference. Top pieces usually rack up about a large average, sub par work getting just a point per vote doesn't really matter.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/19/2012 16:04

Its kinda wierd but in the end the cream does rise to the top every month so we don't tinker with it.

CPearson (Level 4 Murderer) @ 1/19/2012 16:02

So all those sub par pieces I've been voting 1 star on are actually better off for it.
That's strange.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/19/2012 15:59

@CPearson, total number of votes (under art) whichever piece gets the most is #1. Giving a piece a 1 does not mean a low rating as its 1 more vote to total count. Not scientific, more motivational than anything else.

Faves do not count.

In the event of a tie (never has happened) then total number of votes divided by total number of voters.

CPearson (Level 4 Murderer) @ 1/19/2012 15:10

How exactly does the rating system for this work?

What's the algorithm for highest rating or whatever?number of ratings multiplyed by average rating, or something?

Gecimen (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 1/19/2012 03:41

January is even more competitive...

Delicious (Level 9 Boss) @ 1/18/2012 21:46

Second place?! I feel like I don't deserve it compared to other works, but I'm not complaining! =P

Also congrats Super17! Very well done.

skeddles (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 1/18/2012 20:42

llshadow is one of my new favorite pixel artists!

Badassbill (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 1/18/2012 19:50

Lots of great stuff in December. I'm surprised I even got into top 10.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/18/2012 19:37
