We recently reached 50,000 active pieces in the gallery! To celebrate, we're going to give away six Steam copies of the newly re-released Chaos Engine - featuring wonderful pixel artwork from Dan Malone.
In order to participate, create an avatar for yourself (64 x 64px) using one of the original Chaos Engine palettes shown below (this includes the black); you do not have to use all the colours, but for obvious reasons, you need to use at least 2. You may also use transparency.
Start using your avatar and post a comment in this news post to enter. Everyone with an account made on or before September 2nd, 2013 and an avatar using one of the below palettes is eligible to enter.
Update: You do not need to use all of the colours. Black is allowed, as is transparency.
Steam's good as a social network. I have a few friends on my friend list that only have 1 or 2 games but they bum around on steam all day long anyway.
Also I enjoy stalking people's screenshot libraries. It works just like regular stalking on facebook/twitter/whatever but with video games. XD
I already have the Chaos Engine so I won't enter, but I made an avatar anyways 'cause I hold a deep respect for CE's art :)
Yes, entries will be picked randomly. I will use the list feature from random.org and pick the top 6 entries that are listed.
I would prefer randomisation for an activity like this; basically, I want everyone to have an equal chance when we're dealing with giving out actual prizes.
I don't know if winners will be judged, I meant judged on its validity.
Is there gonna be judging? I thought the post said "randomly selected?"
I don't see why not, a few people have. I would assume it is judged on the avatar though, not the whole 100x100 piece.
I made a 100x100 entry with a 64x64 preview... is it ok?
I'm getting in on this. Managed to fit the pice into 64x64 now.
black is included guys.. just look at the main picture. and yes it's ok if you choose not to use it.
Okay, I'll update the rules; any amount of colours is now okay - this includes black. Transparency is okay too.
Sorry about all the confusion =(
Wait, so we don't actually need to use all the colours but we can use the black?
Ahem... You must use all of the colours from your chosen palette.
I had no idea black was included.
Sounds cool and I love Chaos Engine on my Amiga. I don't use Steam though nor do I want to.
@P0int; yes, but your current avatar is also acceptable (you don't have to use all the colors).
@Gecimen: thank you.
I will try to do something in time...
I'm in, if I don't win I'll probably buy this game anyway. Used to play the crap out of it on a SNES emulator. I used the 3rd palette from the top.
Does your avatar have to be a reimagined avatar that you already have, or can it be a completely new idea?
@Adcrusher; yes, each row separate palette.
@Arkan85; yes it is the pixeljoint account that needs to be created before september 2nd.
@all; to learn about Steam, google Steam. to learn about Chaos Engine, google Chaos Engine, to learn about anything, google anything.
I do not have a Steam account...
if I make an account now (after september 2nd) could I partecipate or not?
EDIT: I made an account right now...
Could I get this on SNES instead of Steam... and instead of Chaos Engine could I get Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City?
Is each row one palette? Surely the whole image is not the palette, that is a lot of colors! Also, do we change our image before or after posting on this thread?
Steam is a gaming network. Like XBL or PSN (Xbox Live and Playstation respectively.) Chaos Engine is an OLD game. Like... OOOOOOLD OOOOOOOOOOLD.
I don't know what Steam or Chaos engine is.
Much less a Steam copy of Chaos Engine.
I looked at a few screenshots and was wondering why this game looked so similar to Soldiers of Fortune. Now after doing some reasearch I kind of feel like an idiot, haha.
I generally don't play games on PC. I have my laptop working just the way I like it and I'd rather not risk installing/uninstalling tons of crap when the general PC game market doesn't appeal to me much at all.
Anyways congrats to the winners.
