ehm no, i  used the image so i didnt have to deal with proportions because i was focusing on dithering,  i used photoshop, photo on one layer, work on the other, etc..

looks really good, made me think of a lucas arts graphic adventure.

yes the gameboy colours really made it for me, i'd say they even look funkier.

the problem with reading it i think its mainly because you have that purple drop over the main edge of the composition,  and its really heavy to the eye, and then you have that same colour in the bg at the left. which pops out a lot. Look at the 4 color image, that character in the bg its way darker, thats why its easier to read.

nice BG, i'd try to add something to it thought, so the sprites would be easier to see.

you have two strong  edges going on there so i would work the bg thinking on that.

i'm going to work on getting the most of every colour, because i ran out of colours and the face turned out really flat.

you're right about the shadow, doesnt belong to any object in the scene so its confusing.

and the head thing i think you're talking about the pyramid? its a silly mock up, i needed an excuse to do something
