This is a lovely attribute, Zch! And congratulations on making it to ten years, Jalonso!

The colors and the depth are beautiful, and I absolutely love how you shaded the tree. Great storytelling within this piece, too.

@Jalonso & @Elk: The leg is very off to me as well. I've tried to play with it several times, and even with the advice from Elk, I just cannot correct it without sacrificing the overall motion. I definitely should've taken anatomy into account when creating this. Gonna keep trying to fiddle with it, though! Hopefully I'll have an update to this in the coming days. Thank you very much for your comments!

@MasterSky: Thank you! Recieving a compliment on AA made my heart flutter, aha. And, yes, the hands are very... non-existent. Perhaps moving the bat behind the foreground hand would fix it until I learn how to properly draw hands at this scale. :')

@AirStyle: That's quite alright. I personally see improvement between the two but I am always looking to further that. I'll keep striving for better! Thank you for your honesty!

The effects and the crown are absolutely gorgeous! The reflections in the crown, particularly, make this piece so mesmerizing. I am in love.

Your work is like eye candy to me, and I find myself often returning to this piece in particular to "ooh" and "awh" at it. Beautiful animation!

I have been debating on scaling my work down, especially after looking around at work by other artists! And I completely agree about adding feet to my images. I am always stuck when it comes to refining the legs and that just might help, aha. Thank you for your comment!

@Iscalio: Thank you, and you absolutely should create a gemsona! It's very fun. :')

@Manupix: Thank you very much! Your critique is amazingly helpful! The blue/purple area combinations that you pointed out have been picking at my brain all while working on it and I couldn't figure out why. The shift in depth is definitely a problem I'll have to watch out for in the future. Overall, I'm just gleaming by your commentary! Everything you said will help me catch problems in my next piece. Again, thank you! (I wish I could 'like' or 'thumbs up' your post, aha.)

Better! And completely understandable. I find myself having difficulty with similiar tight surfaces. :')

Wow. You have a new admirer! The dithering, the light, the shadows... everything is so intellectually placed. I am glad your interview was linked because I definitely want to explore your thought process!

user

Oooh, this is a lovely adaptation! The dithering from the jawline to nose is nicely laid out, and the hair and lips are gorgeous!

My only critique is the bottom of the lightest color on the chin should receive a bit more dithering to better imply shadow and smoothness as you did for the upper lip area.

Parlez vu Anglais? S'il vouz plait. My apologies, but I am finding it difficult to understand your comment as I do not have a good grasp on French. (Beautiful language, though!) Is this C+C or a compliment for what I am assuming is directed at the eyes?

@Fusionnist: I thought it was a fitting quote, and one she says quite often! She is a bit talkative, albeit short, for a character who revolves around silence. :')

@Finlal: That would be correct! Perhaps I forgot to include the full image in the upload process... I'm not quite sure what happened, but it is fixed now! Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

@Showtime, @Theoden: Yup, yup! I completely agree. Background-to-subject recognition is something I definitely need to keep a better eye out in my future work. Your commentary is much appreciated. :')

user
ofbovasso @ 3/21/2015 09:15 commented on Prancing

Thank you, Manupix! Your C+C was very helpful! I did attempt the rainbow but it seems I cannot find a fix to my liking without having to edit the palette entirely... which is more work than I am willing to apply to an edit as I much rather start over from scratch. My background in general is in need of some fine tuning, haha. I am at a place of struggle in my art where I know I could take it so much further but my know-how is sorely lacking.

I have a guilty pleasure for mirrored images in all art across the board. I recognize it is bad (AKA lazy) and I definitely have some pet peeves with it myself, but my love for it currently outweighs the bad. I'm sure I'll come to loathe it by next week or sometime in the near future as it tends to go!

And thank you very much for letting me know about edits/updates on a submitted piece! I really appreciate all advice and criticism given, and while I may not apply all of it to an existing piece, it is definitely on my mind for the next one! :')

user
ofbovasso @ 3/20/2015 19:45 commented on Prancing

@Friend: Yes! The intention was to be a top hat with a buckle detail. It does, unfortunately, seem a bit lost in the background, and after much fiddling, I cannot bring that focus back into the image without sacrificing yet another element. I'm basically clueless in this case. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your comments!

@Finlal: I, too, thought the rainbow looked amateurish... Despite that, though, I like the overall composition with the rainbow included. Hopefully with more practice little additions like that will present themselves better in my work! And funnily enough, I did, in fact, misread the challenge. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. :')
