This looks really nice! The AA is nice and smooth, especially considering the limited palette

Last week's challenge reminded me of this piece so I made a much needed edit

This is awesome! If I had any gripes it would be that the dithering on the wood is a bit noisy. But I love the concept and palette and form

the AA is a bit jarring unless that's on purpose. I like it though, it's got.. spunk

Quite!

only thing is the top of the letters, that looks kinda gross. just move it up a pixel

Fantastic! How many colors?

try to keep a cylindrical shape. A lot of your shading areas are a little blotchy, they should be fairly consistent. Also, I would rethink some of the palette, that brown isn't very sodaesque. And you're dithering seems a little inconsistent.
Also, try extending that shine from the top all the way down and give it more of a glassy feel. I would also outline it in glass color.

Oh, and some AA would do wonders on that label.

All in all, it's not bad, there's just some things you should consider ironing out

love the style, the animation is pretty smooth too.

One thing I would suggest is making the muzzle flash faster, it looks a bit wierd

I really want to see this animated. Like, a LOT.

It's awesome, good job.

also, I wish I had that lava lamp in my room it looks really cool

This piece is very noisy, it's very hard to tell what's going on. I would suggest using a less grating palette

haha now here's a label I wanna buy clothes from

the face looks a bit puffy

user
almostpeaceful74 @ 4/2/2011 13:11 commented on Tribal Chieftan

the shine on the necklace probably shouldn't move so much, the torso is really jerky, and I don't think the dithering on his loincloth works very well, since you haven't used it anywhere else, but other than that this is pretty good. Especially for a first piece!

I'm also not sure I like the blue magic stuff, I would take it out or use more shades of blue, less regularly patterned

user
almostpeaceful74 @ 4/2/2011 12:10 commented on Lorenzo - Walk

The torso's movement is a little stiff, and I feel like the cape should wave out a little bit, it looks kinda wierd.

the arms are really dangly but that could be on purpose, it doesn't necessarily look bad.
There are a lot of little spots where I think you shaded the cloth (elbow, knee, hip) that just look wierd in the animation; like little blips of dark color. I would suggest taking them out or using another, lighter shade color so it isn't so jarring.

I like the character! The sprite itself looks great, but if I were you I'd touch up the animation just a little

I actually think the tree looks good off-balance, though you might want to put in a branch under the left side. And you really should change the leaves.

Overall, good job though!

Is he sitting on a pile of sand? Feels like minecraft

Great palette! my favorite is diamond tile with the crystal and red/blue tiles. That eye is exquisite

Nice. I would have used a bit more shading on her body, it seems a little unfinished. That face is excellent though

I like the grass but the dirt right below it is a little oddly colored

user

Beautiful. There should be more games that look like this. My only gripe is that some of these test screens are a little too noisy for practical gameplay, but that's just a personal thing.

Oh and I LOVE the dragon skeleton. fav'd.

thanks for the crit!
Yeah, in this piece I tried a new technique, that being the glowing red outline.

I agree it needs some AA but by the end I was really pushing the color pallette because of the range of colors in the piece (hence that giant flat red spot at the bottom :P), so I didn't really have the chance. Part of it is also that outline thing. I kinda started it unintentionally, and then it became too much work to take it out. I'm not ultimately disappointed with it but I do agree about the AA.

You were pretty much right about the glow, the scene is the boss battle with Ridley (the draconian fellow in the reflection there), and it takes place in a lava-filled cavern. here's my ref: http://image.gamespotcdn.net/gamespot/images/2004/reviews/914982_20040220_embed101.jpg
