I saw this on pixelation and thought it rocked. The only thing I don't like is the way the legs are difficult to differentiate from each other. Oh, and I'd say it could be a bit more refined/cleaner/etc.

The movement itself is far from realistic, but it's clear that it's not trying to be and the strange head movement really adds to the character. Good stuff.

This is definitely my kinda challenge.

I like this a lot, but I feel as if the shapes could be a bit more interesting than the simple designs you have now.

Darth, the problem with these is that many of these are straight-up recolorings of Chrono Trigger sprites. Take a look at the sprite sheets here and compare them to the sprites that have been uploaded here. Many of the pixels are even still intact from the original.

Aside from that, I would agree with Metaru that the actual pixel skill is lacking. There are far too many different colors, and the colors themselves are way too similar to warrant use.

Huh, didn't think someone could recommend their own work.

Otherwise, I also agree about the dither issue being an odd requirement. Dithering is a technique and does not define pixel art. Likewise, does crosshatching define pencil, ink, or brushwork?

I also agree, and did an update. I'm not sure how noticeable it is since I'm not so good at the AAing, but yeah.

Here's a comparison .gif: http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/5663/avbm7.gif

Hey, thanks! I'm not sure how relevant it is these days... but I appreciate the comment, especially from you.

It's nice, but unfortunately not yours.

This place is for original pixels. Check elsewhere on the internet if you're looking to post up sprite rips.

Womped: Haha, yeah. I don't really put myself out too much online, so it's easy for me to get lost in the shuffle. I'm not sure how I could go about 'fixing' this one, because the source material could really be interpreted as various things. I guess that's why I stuck with little detail.

virus616: Your guess is as good as mine. On the thread I posted this in, one person said that they remember the Knytt having something of a feline's face.

Tough call. The PS3 seems to have a very limited game library, while the 360 has some pretty common hardware issues. I'm personally not going to be spending any money on a console this generation.

With that said, I highly recommend the respectable position of the moocher.

Khris @ 1/6/2008 10:00 commented on Big Bird
I totally agree with that.

I got so frustrated with this one I have that I ended up snapping off a hand because I had wound it up too much.

Metaru: that piece and others in that user's gallery definitely look like they've used some NPA elements. Some of them are even obviously color reductions. Dunno if that's what you were asking about, but those are my thoughts. :B

I love(d) the show, and I love the way you've done this. Looks just like them.

In particular, I think I actually prefer the preview image, but I can imagine that it'd look silly if they were all doing those animations together on the same image.

Because people like it?

I personally think it's the most lacking in pixel technique (I really should've took some more time on ironing out the rough background bits), but its popularity is probably due to the fact that it's both Zelda fanart (essentially) and a game mock-up. These are, understandably, very popular things.

To me, it looks a whole lot like hard pixel brushes were used, but at different opacities. That would explain the overall messiness of these pieces on a pixel level, and why a lot of them raise eyebrows on their validity as pure pixel art. Could you explain your method? I find it difficult to believe that the large amount of colors were actually picked out and not  just the result of layered semi-transparent pixels.

Khris @ 12/28/2007 00:39 commented on Big Bird
A few reasons, I would say:
1.) Large
2.) Features a celebrity (caters to fans in some way)
3.) As you said, "nice enough"

EDIT: I'd also agree with lollige. There's a big difference between the standard of now and almost three years ago.

Well, I expected it wouldn't be received too well, but I ended up liking it anyways.

I'll probably do something larger in the style and then decide from there if I wanna keep messing with it.

I was particularly fond of the colors and texturing on the windshield. Good stuff.

Yes. They all use the same 16 (plus transparency) color palette.

I established the (super-vibrant) palette first when creating the main character sprites, so you would be correct in saying that the colors were forced, at least for the mock-up tiles.

Thanks for the kind words!
