So, it's been talked about off and on for a looooong time now and it's about time to commit... we will be rolling out a new design with new features over the next few months. I want to take the next step and focus in on three things without sacrificing too much of what makes PJ a fun place:
1) Getting pixel artists paid (job postings, project ads, contests, selling shit)
2) Giving featured artists more of the spotlight
3) Helping pixel artists grow (ramp up them tutorials)
I can't make guarantees as to how fast this will happen, but I will definitely be setting aside time on a regular basis to get this done.
Many thanks to pixelblink for keeping the ball rolling.
for you to do the laundry for them? i'm pretty sure you're good with the soap.
every Saturday? I can't tell you how often I tell the ladies what I do and they drop their clothes for me. ;)
quality, just remember we're actually showing this to impress people and get laid every saturday night.
I don't have any interest in putting up half-assed horrible games on the site... pixel art is the top priority followed closely by gameplay.
Nitrome and Pixeljam have top quality blend to shoot for, but simple Flash interaction games (like Orisinal) would be great.
Ultimately, it'd be nice to have games that incorporate member art dynamically.
Pixel flash games is a good idea, it is annoying when independent game forums have generic flash games in their arcade.
Don't know how newgrounds woks...
Buw I',m so drunk T-T hehhe, see you...
I want to reinforce that pixelblink is putting in great effort and if you have any ideas you want to push make sure to hit him up. :)
Details like emoticon expansion, new awards, collab focus and UI upgrades are the types of things that will also be very important with the update. What would be the point of a redesign without some fun?
EDIT: One of my key goals over the next couple of years is to integrate some fun little Flash games into the site. PJ has game art up the wazoo and no games to showcase it in -- that's gotta change.
You get respect when you earn respect, that's how it works. And I said that because I knew you were an idiot already but god damn your comment made me laugh
I do not know what browser you are using, but at least firefox is still working on a way to have this configurable for webmasters.
Fantastic. I don't wait for more...
Implementation of any "ALIAS" script on the zoom of the image for Mac browsers would be great..
...but I don't know if it's possible...
4) On April 1st to April 3rd, everybody's timezone is set the same.
The latest someone could appear to post an April fool's joke on Pixel joint (while still being posted on April fool's day) would be 2 April 2009 11:55 PM. According to my clock I guess it could be fool's joke ..
4/2/2009 11:26:41 PM
Too sensible to be a joke. I don't understand isn't 1) already covered by the forum?
It would be nice to sort of split the 'social networking' aspect and the 'website about pixel art' with one containing people's art, awards, forums and such and the other featuring actual articles, tutorials and news.
edit: is this an april fools joke? not very funny if so
More awards would be cool.
For example, being in the weekly showcase or some other stuff.
Maybe even some humorous awards?
Idk just throwing out ideas.
Edit:
Post your ideas and suggestions here

This comment pretty much proves that you're more of an idiot than I thought possible
regardless, looking forward to the changes that are coming
Everything sounds fine except the comment about "sacrifice" some features or something else.
Howeva... sounds like april's fools month news.
we can make money selling out shit? cool, I'm gonna go take some laxatives...
"selling shit" is on our list of objectives
collabs is on our list of objectives as well.
I've been pushing this for awhile now with Sedge and it's good to see the ball is finally rolling. We gladly will accept any and all input in the PJv3 thread in the forums but, if you have anything you wish to put by me personally, shoot me a pm and I'll talk it through.
No, this is NOT another april fools joke either :D
I'm all for it.
Don't know how I could help, apart from maybe making a tutorial or two.
Also: collabs :D
Cool. By the way, I am currently programming a dynamic mass colaboration system. I would launch my own website with it, but it might be cooler if it becomes part of PJ, just as the wees, the joint, etc., but it allows to run new collabs on regular base.

Sweet! Redesigns are always fun. Are you going to try for a more neutral theme this time around? Also, I hope you are able to fix the firefox issues that cause images to disappear behind parts of the page when you click the zoom button, instead of exanding the page aroudn the image. I also preferred it when you guys had it set up so that when you clicked on a gallery piece it opened up the picture by itself in a new window. But I use imagezoom for viewing this site, so I might not be the typical viewer who needs the site's zoom to see the pixel art.
I like your 3 main focus points for the new redesign. Sounds like some good thigns to concentate on. #2, esepecially. I find it kind of annoying that the same pixel art tends to keep showign up on the left side fo the homepage. It'd be nice to see more people being recognised there.
Thanks for all the hardwork, sedge+team!
Might it finally allow some of us to change our name like we been needing for last couple years or so?
2 and 3 will definitly promote a great community.
And I can see 1 taking effect in its own, well-maintained section.
Looking forward to these changes. :)
